Full Job Description

Language Resource Center (LRC) is seeking qualified American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreters to provide professional interpreting services for a healthcare client in or near Rome, Georgia.

Position Details

Location: Rome, GA and surrounding areas
Position Type: Freelance / Independent Contractor
Language: American Sign Language (ASL)
Setting: Medical/Healthcare
Schedule: Assignments vary based on client needs
Pay: Competitive freelance rates based on qualifications and assignment

Qualifications

Current, recognized ASL interpreting certification, such as RID National Interpreter Certification (NIC) or another recognized professional credential
Demonstrated professional ASL-English interpreting skills
Prior medical or healthcare interpreting experience strongly preferred
Familiarity with medical terminology, healthcare environments, and interpreting in clinical settings preferred
Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow professional interpreting standards and ethical guidelines
Reliable transportation and ability to travel to assignments in and around Rome, GA
Ability to arrive on time and prepared for each assignment
Must maintain all certifications, licenses, and credentials required for the specific assignment, facility, or client

Preferred Medical Interpreting Experience

Candidates with experience interpreting in the following settings are especially encouraged to apply:

Hospitals and medical centers
Physician offices and specialty clinics
Emergency departments
Outpatient appointments
Patient registration and intake
Mental health or behavioral health settings
Medical procedures and consultations

Experience with medical terminology and the ability to accurately interpret sensitive and complex healthcare information is highly preferred.

Professional Expectations

Interpreters must be able to provide accurate, impartial, and confidential communication between Deaf or Hard of Hearing patients and healthcare providers while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and ethical standards.
