Overview of the Role

The teller position is one that has primary contact with GPO’s membership and plays a vital role in ensuring our members receive quality service. As a teller you must act as a member advocate by seeking ways to enhance the member experience while completing daily transactions.

Teller scheduling is Monday-Friday 8:15am-5:15pm with two to three Saturdays a month from 8:45am-12:15pm.

The Float Teller will work out of the Rome Branch but will be expected to cover at any of our other branches as needed. Mileage traveled between branches is reimbursed at the current IRS-approved rate.

As a Teller you will gain multiple skills & knowledge such as proper cash handling & customer service skills, knowledge of financial products and sales experience.

Teller Responsibilities

Engage with members to guarantee a positive experience and develop strong member relationships.
Look for opportunities to refer products and services that would provide value and benefit to the members in addition to helping the branch meet overall sales goals.
Complete transactions accurately to ensure a balanced drawer daily.
Greet members as they enter the building to create a welcoming and aware environment.
Perform transactions in a professional manner to build member confidence and trust.
Resolve service issues and answer member questions or refer members to another employee as appropriate to guarantee member satisfaction and retention.
Maintain the ATM and night depository as directed by the teller supervisor.
Act as a first line of defense against member fraud by reporting suspicious or irregular activity and educating our members on account security.
Perform other duties as requested to ensure an efficient and smooth teller line.

Help create a positive image of your branch by playing an active role in your branch community.

Teller Qualifications

Determined and motivated individual with a positive attitude.
Ability to work in a team setting as well as take on projects as an individual.
A high-school diploma or a GED.
A minimum 6 months of cash-handling experience.
Willingness to promote credit union products and services.

Teller Physical Demands

Must be able to stand for extended periods of time with regularity.
Must be able to lift bags of coin and cash drawers with regularity in excess of 10 pounds.
Must be able to manually count cash with dexterity on a regular basis.
Occasionally must be able to stoop, bend, twist, pickup items, etc.
Must be able to visually assess the authenticity of presented items with regularity.
Must be able to speak with clarity and listen effectively on a regular basis.

Decision Making

To exercise sound judgement when making decisions as they relate to position duties and the credit union’s policies and procedures.

Financial Responsibilities

To be responsible for safeguarding the credit union’s assets by ensuring that policies and procedures are followed.

Communication

Must keep the teller supervisor and branch manager informed regarding key issues and respect the chain of command when issues arise.
Must effectively communicate within the branch to ensure the flow of ideas and information.

Equipment Used

Must be able to operate a 10-key calculator and possess keyboarding skills.
Must be proficient in various data processing programs.
Must be able to maintain and troubleshoot automated teller machines and coin machines.

Work Environment

Branch environment
Must promote a positive, friendly and courteous environment.
