Full Job Description

Tax Manager

Position: Tax Manager
Job Type: Full-Time, Exempt
Work Location: In Office

Salary Range: $125,000 - $175,000

Position Summary

This person is responsible for managing multiple tax engagements, supervising and mentoring staff, and delivering high-quality tax and accounting services to a diverse client base. This position requires strong technical tax knowledge, leadership skills, and the ability to manage client relationships while ensuring engagements are completed accurately, efficiently, and within established deadlines.

This position will require the review of staff prepared workpapers supporting the preparation of various tax returns and financial statement engagements before partners final review, as well as assisting firm staff members throughout their completion of these engagements. This person serves as a trusted client advisor by providing any necessary tax planning, research, and consulting services and plays an integral part in staff development, workflow management, and maintaining the firm’s commitment to exceptional client service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Tax Services

Manage multiple tax engagements from planning through completion.
Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns for:
C Corporations
S Corporations
Partnerships
Fiduciaries
Individuals
Prepare and review tax projections and estimated tax calculations.
Conduct tax research and prepare technical memoranda, written correspondence, and client guidance.
Provide tax planning and consulting services to clients.
Research complex tax issues and recommend practical solutions.
Ensure compliance with applicable tax laws, regulations, and professional standards.

Accounting and Financial Reporting

Oversee month-end and year-end accounting close processes.
Review general ledger activity and balance sheet reconciliations.
Review and assist with the preparation of compiled and reviewed financial statements, including required disclosures and engagement checklists.
Assist clients with financial reporting and accounting matters.
Support external audit engagements as needed.

Client Management

Manage and maintain relationships with multiple clients across various industries.
Communicate engagement progress, issues, recommendations, and resolutions through written and verbal correspondence.
Anticipate engagement risks and proactively develop solutions.
Ensure engagements are completed efficiently while maintaining high-quality standards and client satisfaction.

Leadership and Staff Development

Supervise, mentor, train, and develop professional staff.
Review staff workpapers, tax returns, and financial statements for accuracy and completeness.
Provide timely coaching, performance feedback, and technical guidance.
Assist with staff scheduling, workflow management, and engagement assignments.
Foster a collaborative and professional team environment.

Qualifications

Strong technical knowledge of federal and state taxation for individuals and business entities.
Excellent accounting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Strong tax research abilities.
Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to prioritize multiple engagements and consistently meet deadlines.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong leadership and supervisory abilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including advanced Microsoft Excel.
Experience with QuickBooks.
Experience with tax and practice management software such as Lacerte, Engagement, Practice Management, and Workstream is preferred.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
Master's degree in Taxation or Accounting preferred.
CPA license preferred; active CPA license is a strong plus.
Minimum of 10 years of recent public accounting experience in a CPA firm.
Previous supervisory or management experience required.
Foreign tax experience is a plus.
