This position is responsible for supporting the research and development of products in the Paint Stores and Consumer Brands Groups within the Building Materials Lab. This individual will provide technical support for the Building Materials Team with the primary focus on Sherwin-Williams and White Lightning Branded Caulks and Geocel Sealants. Other support opportunities will be with Uniflex and KoolSeal Roof coatings and Loxon, H&C, and Valspar concrete and masonry coatings as needed.
This position is accountable for routine experiments, recording results, and demonstrating basic knowledge of raw materials and basic equipment/computing tools to capture and record data. Has familiarity with scientific principles, products and/or processes. This individual performs basic tasks outlined by manager with progress and results checked regularly. This individual creates and updates reports, executes experimentation, and records results. This individual seeks assistance in setting priorities for scheduling, organizes time efficiently and recognizes routine experiments and selects proper, simple procedures for obtaining desired results to solve problems.

Responsibilities include:
1. Lab Support/Product Development
- Accountable for routine lab testing including scale ups, performance testing, and heat-age stability that supports the reformulation, development, maintenance, enhancement and assessment of products.
- Supports the execution of experiments, competitive benchmarking, compares new to old products, performs basic caulk and sealant processes, matches target colors, and participates in the design of experiments.
- Follows standard internal Institutional Test Methods and Institutional Calibration Methods as well as ASTM International standards for Caulks, Sealants, and Adhesives.
2. Communication
- Establishes timelines for assignments tasked with based on priorities with assistance from their supervisor.
- Provides necessary project updates to supervisor.
- Communicates effectively within a primary network of contacts.
- Responsible for writing basic reports, outlining procedures used, and inputting results.
- Maintain accurate and up to date project documentation.
- Communicates detailed ideas concisely through written communication within the department.
- Obtain a small network of resources but may still need manager’s advice on where to go when an issue arises.
3. Safety
- Complies with, and displays knowledge of, all safety and security regulations.
- Demonstrates knowledge and safe use of chemicals, raw materials, substrates, and instruments.
- Proficient in operating moderately complex lab instruments.
- Maintains a clean work area
- Accountable for following chemical hygiene plan and safe laboratory practices
4. Operations Support
- Supports operations through raw material evaluation, quality investigations, continuous improvement projects and regulatory compliance.
Minimum Requirements
- Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status)
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must have a High School Diploma
- 6 months experience in a lab setting.
