Full-time position - 40 Hours per week
The Information Technology Specialist 1 position provides support to employees by evaluating computing system needs, receiving, testing and installing hardware, software and peripheral equipment, solving user operation problems and supporting computer operations. Provide training for basic desktop support.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
The essential functions of this position require prioritizing and completing all assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner, adjusting for changing priorities and availability of resources, and demonstrating initiative in identifying additional job-related tasks to be completed when time permits. Serve as first line support to all UCAN employees at all UCAN locations. Respond to requests from employees for technical assistance in person, via phone and/or electronically. Identify, prioritize and resolve technical hardware and software issues. Train and orient staff on new data-base systems, hardware and software. Research questions using available information resources.
- Track and route problems and requests; document resolutions utilizing helpdesk software.

Assist with the installation, configuration and ongoing usability of desktop computers, and peripheral equipment and software.

Receive and respond to requests for setup and support of standard AV equipment, installation and programming of telephone systems and smart phones.

Participate in electronic equipment inventory management and attention to internal processes

Remain current with company system information, changes and updates. Remain current on technology developments.

Analyze and implement Operating System patches. Test fixes to ensure problem has been adequately resolved.

Drive a company vehicle in the performance of duties that serve as the basis of this position. Driving will be required for frequent travel to multiple company facilities to perform information technology support work, and to perform other essential functions as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Qualified candidates for this position will have relevant education and experience necessary to perform the essential functions and meet the minimum performance expectations for this position with or without an accommodation.
Knowledge of: Considerable knowledge of computer operating principles, capabilities, and general uses; considerable knowledge of recommended computer hardware, software and peripheral equipment; considerable knowledge of technical terminology typically encountered in an information services environment; considerable knowledgeable in the basic set up of a PC and proficient in the installation and support of commercial software, Active Directory; basic knowledge of LAN and WAN network equipment; basic knowledge of support, and troubleshooting of remote access software.
Skill in: Use of modern office equipment which includes computers and systems; proficient in the usage of Microsoft Office tools: Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Working within a team concept; courteously meet and deal effectively with other employee’s vendors and the public.
Ability to: Reason logically when analyzing data and utilize program identification and resolution techniques. Communicate effectively in both oral and written forms; multi-task with limited supervision; work independently as well as part of a team estimate and manage time efficiently; establish and meet deadlines; train one-on-one or a group in a small classroom environment; make decisions independently in accordance with established policy; use initiative and judgment in completing tasks and responsibilities; work with detailed information for sustained periods of time, maintain records, reports and statistical data; maintain confidentiality; remain calm and use good judgment during confrontational or high pressure situations; courteously meet and deal effectively with coworkers, vendors and the public.
REQUIRED EDUCATION EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

Associate's degree in computer science or related field and one year work related experience
- OR three years increasingly responsible work related experience OR a satisfactory equivalent combination of education, experience and training.
- At time of appointment, must possess valid Oregon driver’s license and have an acceptable driving history that meets UCAN's driving standards.

Staff Health Appraisal required within 60 days of employment.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Solid PC experience in Windows environment;
- laptop and PC repairs such as: memory upgrades, PCMCIA cards, screen, keyboard, and HDD swaps; set-up, management, and support of laptop PC's.
- Good technical skills with a thorough understanding of data communications.
- Ability to implement and maintain a proactive support environment.
- CompTIA A+ and MCP certifications preferred.

Due to the nature and scope of the essential functions, the importance of personal interactions between this position, employees, clients and other members of the public, and the availability of job-related tools, equipment and resources at work, performance of the essential functions requires regular, consistent and on-site attendance while working independently and with others during our normal business hours.
Regular and consistent attendance is required. Hours of work are during normal business hours and may require occasional evenings and weekends. Non-exempt employees may be expected to work varying amounts of overtime during periods of high-volume work or to accomplish special projects.
