Head Chef

Reports To: Ownership & Chef/Consultant

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and driven Head Chef to lead the culinary vision and daily kitchen operations of a high-energy, modern American restaurant concept. This role requires a hands-on culinary leader with strong organizational skills, refined execution, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

The Head Chef will be responsible for maintaining culinary excellence, managing kitchen staff, controlling food costs, and ensuring consistency across all menu items while collaborating closely with ownership and the chef/consultant on menu development, operational standards, and long-term growth.

Key Responsibilities

Culinary Leadership & Execution

Execute and maintain the approved Modern Asian menu with consistency, quality, and precision
Uphold plating standards, flavor profiles, and presentation across all services
Collaborate with the chef/consultant and ownership on seasonal updates, specials, and menu refinements
Ensure all recipes, prep procedures, and cooking techniques are followed accurately

Kitchen Operations

Oversee all day-to-day kitchen operations, including prep, service, and cleanup
Create and manage prep lists, production schedules, and station organization
Maintain clean, safe, and organized kitchen environments at all times
Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and sanitation standards

Team Management & Training

Recruit, train, and develop all BOH staff
Lead by example with professionalism, discipline, and strong work ethic
Schedule staff efficiently based on business levels and service needs
Conduct regular training sessions to improve skills, consistency, and speed
Foster a positive, accountable, and high-performance kitchen culture

Cost Control & Inventory

Manage food costs, waste, and portion control
Oversee ordering, inventory, and vendor relationships
Monitor product quality and ensure proper storage and rotation
Work with ownership to meet or exceed food cost targets

Collaboration & Communication

Maintain open communication with FOH leadership to ensure smooth service flow
Report directly to ownership and chef/consultant on kitchen performance, challenges, and opportunities
Participate in leadership meetings and contribute to overall restaurant strategy

Qualifications

Minimum 5+ years of professional kitchen experience, with at least 2 years in a Head Chef or Senior

Sous Chef role

Strong background in Modern Asian cuisine or related culinary styles
Proven experience in high-volume, high-energy restaurant environments
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining high standards
Financial awareness with experience managing food cost and labor
Passion for hospitality, mentorship, and culinary excellence
