- Describe your experience overseeing a complex payroll and benefits program. How did you effectively manage staff to ensure payroll and personnel transactions were accurate, timely, consistent, and compliant with applicable laws, policies, and bargaining unit agreements?
- Describe a payroll or benefits improvement you developed and implemented. How did you manage the project, support staff through the change, and improve efficiency, compliance, or customer service?
- Describe a time you handled a complex or sensitive payroll or benefits issue involving changing regulations, an audit, or a control agency such as the State Controllers Office, CalPERS, or CalHR. How did you research the issue, advise leadership, and reach a compliant resolution?

3. Reinstatement Eligibility – Previously obtained permanent employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable. If in a different classification, you must meet the minimum qualifications (see Minimum Qualifications section and associated links above).
