Reports to: Executive Director

Collaborates with: Front Office Team, Recruitment and Retainment Team, Operations Team, Tactical Team and Fundraising Committee

Schedule: 1.0 FTE, 12 month contract

Classification: Salary/Exempt

The Twin Cities German Immersion School (TCGIS) is a Minnesota public charter school serving 550 students from Kindergarten to 8th grade. TCGIS is dedicated to its mission of “Innovative education of the whole child through German immersion. The school remains the largest German language school in North America and has consistently been among Minnesota’s most academically successful schools.

Position Summary: The Communications & Engagement Manager develops and implements strategic communications that strengthen relationships with current families, prospective families, alumni, donors, community partners, and the public. The position oversees internal and external communications, marketing, student recruitment support, community engagement initiatives, and fundraising initiatives while ensuring a consistent and compelling representation of the TCGIS mission and brand.

Responsibilities/Job Duties

Communications Coordinator

Coordinate Newsletter communication (e.g. weekly Rundbrief, quarterly Alumni newsletter; quarterly MS Newsletter, crisis communications, weather related communications, Bugle Newspaper publications, and communications through the GAI)
Develop, maintain, and implement communications strategy and calendar
Provide editorial support to all-school communications to ensure consistent messaging across all platforms
Maintain regular public communication on school’s social media accounts; including messaging from administration and publication of school events/meetings
Create annual Social Media content calendar, monitor analytics, increase engagement
Monitor comments and messages on all social media platforms
Maintain and continuously improve the school’s digital presence, ensuring websites are accurate, current, accessible, and aligned with school branding (tcgis.org, tcgis-zuvon.org, square.com, internal staff website) and notify appropriate parties when updated information is requiredCreate informational pamphlets, graphics, and marketing materials via Canva
Coordinate other communications duties as assigned

Outreach/Recruitment

With collaboration between ED and Principal, coordinate the development and implementation of marketing campaigns & student recruitment activities
Recommend recruitment strategies
Promote school community events
Lead school tours and information sessions
Coordinate TCGIS participation in external community events and outreach activities that are part of outreach/recruitment plan, including coordination of volunteers and merchandise.
Coordinate, execute, and host student recruitment and retainment events at TCGIS
Participate in other outreach and recruitment activities as assigned
Continuously evaluate and research community recruitment events

Fundraising

In collaboration with the Executive Director and the Fundraising Committee, achieve annual and long-term fundraising goals for the school
participate in Fundraising Committee meetings
Oversee and manage school involvement in board fundraising committee campaigns
Coordinate thank you letters for fall campaign
Lead 3 fundraising campaigns that each end in an all school event
Create and implement email and mail campaigns
Communicate outcomes of fundraising campaigns to the community
Design new swag and work with vendors
Maintain school swag stock; sell at school events
Participate in other fundraising projects as assigned

Community Relations

Coordinate and maintain school-community relations with external organizations
Continue to build partnerships with local and international businesses
Recommend and lead school teams for outreach with strategic external organizations and relations
Coordinate and maintain family and volunteer community relations
Lead school-based teams in activities that develop and maintain family and volunteer community relations
Represent the school at community events
Manage volunteer appreciation
Support alumni engagement

Front Office

Provide operational support to the front office 6-10 hours per week
Assist with front office led events such as back to school night, new family open house, and last day of school picnic

Required Qualifications:

Commitment to TCGIS’s mission and vision.
Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent).
Ability to plan and manage multiple projects, prioritize, and meet deadlines with multiple stakeholder groups.
Experience managing multiple communication channels
Positive, enthusiastic attitude and commitment to serving staff, students, school community.
Experience working with staff from different countries.
Experience running and managing fundraising campaigns or initiatives
Ability to learn quickly and be flexible.
Demonstrated leadership and project organizational skills, (planning, implementing, evaluation).
Excellent oral, written, and editing skills.
Excellent technological skills, proficient with Google Suite and various web and social media platforms
Experience in creating and maintaining relationships with third parties.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to read, write, and speak German
Experience with graphic design platforms such as Canva
Minimum of 3 years experience in an administrative support or project management position.
Event Planning experience
Experience with email marketing platforms (Mailchimp, constant contact, etc.)
Knowledge of accessibility standards for digital communications
Experience in K-12 Education and/or Charter Schools

Working Conditions:

Physical Ability: Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
Regular and prompt attendance is required for this position
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require visual perception and discrimination.
Occasionally may be required to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
Occasionally may be required to team lift up to 100 lbs.
Must be willing and able to work in the following environments: indoor, outdoor (all seasons) loud, hectic.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including work as directed outside of the school calendar.

Working Hours:

This position is full-time Monday through Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work is expected to support school events, recruitment activities, fundraising initiatives, and community engagement opportunities. Flexibility in scheduling is provided when possible. This position observes all the scheduled school breaks throughout the school year.

Salary/Benefits:

Salary Range: $50,000 - $60,000

This position is eligible for insurance benefits including medical and dental insurance (premiums paid at 90% by employer), long-term life & disability insurance (premiums paid at 100% by employer).
