Position Summary:
The Take Off Operator is responsible for monitoring the bundler and stacker machines while the machine bundles boards. The operator prepares the bundles of board for removal. The Take Off Operator must be able to operate the bundler and levelator machinery/equipment, correctly and apply appropriate tapes for product, and maintain knife blades and glue application.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND STANDARDS (Including but not limited to):
- Use the Bundler Start-up check list to prepare for the stacker start up.
- Use the computer to program the bundler machine functions and set up arms.
- Use the Daily Cut List to review products that will be run on the shift.
- Monitor boards entering the stacker for alignment.
- Place risers in the proper locations.
- Conduct final inspection and reject products which fail to meet requirements
- Maintain running inventories for the shift.
- Reset the stacker.
- Manually remove damaged boards.
- Manually change/replace bundler tape.
- Manually change/replace zipper tape.
- Align the metal stacker stands for the proper length.
- Prepare the stacker for a board length change.
- Prepare the stacker for a board thickness change.
- Lock out and tag out zones complete bundling system and levelators.
- Working up to 12-hour shifts
JOB STANDARDS (Minimum qualifications needed to perform essential job functions):
Ability to work up to 12-hour shifts. Employee must have good visual acuity for depth and height perception, as well as good manual dexterity/eye coordination. Must have the ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., and the ability to operate a lift truck. Must be able to hear safety alarms, bells and whistles while
wearing NRR rated hearing protection (earmuffs or ear plugs). Must be able to wear work gloves, safety glasses and safety steel-toed shoes.
EQUIPMENT (Machines, devices, tools, etc. used in job performance):
Bundler, taping devices, small hand tools, calculator, lift trucks, riser cutting machine and take off equipment
CRITICAL SKILLS/EXPERTISE (Needed for this job specifically):
Operator must be able to use good judgment when adjusting tapes and knives, must possess basic mechanical ability, must have the capacity and stamina to stand unassisted for long periods of time while paying close attention to the procedures of the takeoff area. Has the ability to exercise immediate and unimpeded auditory, visual and vocal capabilities, all of which are essential functions of the job.
HOUSEKEEPING FUNCTIONS (tasks performed by incumbent of this position):
Good housekeeping practices ensure employee safety and maintain a quality product. It is imperative to keep machinery and work areas clean and free of debris.
The Take Off Operator has the following housekeeping duties:
Sweeps under the bundler, from magazine along both sides to stackers, stationery side to crosswalk and stacker, movable side from magazine around to stackers, around stackers, stacker panel and reject table. Clean inside bundler traverse area. Blows down the stacker conveyors, dust down stacker panel, replaces water applicators and empty trash cans.
Deep cleaning days – the Mill is down:
Blow down equipment inside of bundler, bundler and stackers conveyors. Sweep in, under and around bundler, stacker conveyor roll tables. Thoroughly clean water pots
WORK SCHEDULE
This position operates on a continuous 7-day workweek defined as: Monday 7:00 AM – Monday 7:00 AM.
Employees are assigned to one of the following fixed shifts:
- 1st Shift: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- 2nd Shift: 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM
- 3rd Shift: 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM
Employees are regularly scheduled on a designated shift and are not part of a routine rotating schedule. Temporary reassignment may occur based on operational needs.
Employees must be able to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
