Lake Forest Senior Living Community, Inc., is seeking an experienced, compassionate, and visionary Executive Director to lead our vibrant nonprofit retirement community in beautiful Plattsburgh, New York.
Nestled on 24-scenic acres overlooking Lake Champlain and surrounded by the natural beauty of the Adirondacks, Lake Forest is a premier nonprofit, independent senior living community dedicated to helping adults age with dignity and purpose. Our community includes apartment residences and townhouse-style homes, serving more than 100 residents who enjoy maintenance-free living, exceptional dining, engaging activities, and meaningful social connections. Our mission is to provide enhanced housing options and supportive services that empower older adults to live active, fulfilling lives while maintaining their autonomy and individuality.
This is a unique opportunity for a dynamic leader to guide a well-established and highly respected organization with a strong reputation, dedicated staff, engaged residents, and an active Board of Directors. The Executive Director serves as the chief executive and public representative of Lake Forest, responsible for the overall leadership, financial management, strategic direction, and daily operations of the organization.
Position Summary
The successful candidate will be a relationship-builder who can balance financial management, strategic thinking with hands-on leadership and a deep commitment to serving older adults.
Leadership & Administration
- Provide overall leadership, direction, and management for all Lake Forest operations.
- Develop, recommend, and implement policies and procedures that promote safe operations, efficient use of resources, and exceptional resident experiences.
- Foster a positive, collaborative workplace culture that attracts and retains high-performing employees.
- Work closely with department leaders to maximize operational effectiveness and service quality.
- Schedule and facilitate monthly Board meetings, and support Board committees.
Financial Management & Strategic Planning
- Develop, manage, and monitor annual operating, staffing, and capital budgets.
- Ensure the long-term financial health and sustainability of the organization.
- Oversee financial operations, reporting, forecasting, and internal controls.
- Collaborate with external auditors and professional advisors during annual audits.
- Lead long-range planning efforts, including capital improvement and facility enhancement projects.
Resident Relations & Community Engagement
- Build strong relationships with residents and their families to ensure a high level of satisfaction and trust.
- Champion a culture that respects and protects each resident's dignity, privacy, individuality, independence, and rights.
- Participate in community events and activities that foster engagement among residents and strengthen connections throughout the greater Plattsburgh region.
- Serve as an ambassador for Lake Forest throughout the community.
Marketing & Occupancy Management
- Oversee marketing strategies to maintain strong occupancy levels.
- Manage resident recruitment, tours, and sales processes.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen community awareness and visibility.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, healthcare administration, human services, behavioral sciences, nonprofit management, or a related field.
- 5–10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience.
- Demonstrated success managing budgets, operations, staff, and organizational resources.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work effectively with a Board of Directors, residents, families, employees, and community partners.
- Commitment to the mission of serving older adults with dignity and respect.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a related field.
- 10+ years of executive or senior leadership experience.
- Experience in senior living, healthcare, nonprofit management, housing, hospitality, or a related industry.
- Experience with capital planning, facility management, strategic planning, and marketing.
