ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician to support production in a plastics injection molding environment. This hands-on role is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining hydraulic and electric injection molding machines, auxiliary equipment, automation systems, and facility-related production equipment. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver who understands the importance of uptime, safety, quality, and teamwork in a high-volume manufacturing operation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform preventive maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting, and equipment modifications to keep injection molding operations safe, reliable, and production-ready.
- Maintain and repair hydraulic and electric injection molding machines, gantry systems, material handling systems, auxiliary equipment, and custom assembly machinery.
- Diagnose and resolve complex electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, pneumatic, and control system issues, including servo drives, digital and analog controls, closed-loop proportional controls, hydraulic pumps, valves, cylinders, sensors, and precision mechanical components.
- Read and interpret electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical schematics to identify root causes and complete repairs efficiently.
- Support equipment setup, calibration, and precision maintenance using appropriate metrology tools and measurement techniques.
- Use predictive maintenance technologies, such as infrared thermography and ultrasonic testing, to identify potential failures and reduce unplanned downtime.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, including work orders, repairs, labor hours, parts usage, and outside service costs.
- Partner with production, process technicians, engineering, and leadership to prioritize repairs, communicate equipment status, and support continuous improvement.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment while following all company safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, and standard operating procedures.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical school, apprenticeship, or advanced maintenance training preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years of industrial maintenance experience required, with strong preference for experience in plastics injection molding or similar high-volume manufacturing environments.
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and controls-related equipment issues required.
- Experience with injection molding machines, auxiliary equipment, custom automation, hot runner systems, and PLC troubleshooting or programming preferred.
- Advanced training or certifications in hydraulics, electrical systems, PLCs, industrial maintenance, or related disciplines preferred.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Ability to work overtime and support all shifts, including weekends, as needed for 24/7 operations.
- Strong troubleshooting mindset with the ability to identify root causes and make sound repair decisions under production timelines.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and tooling drawings.
- Proficient with precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, and other metrology tools.
- Comfortable working with injection molding support systems such as dryers, chillers, thermolators, grinders, conveyors, loaders, and hot runner controllers.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively across maintenance, production, engineering, and quality teams.
