Private Chef — Private Residential Estate
Roxbury, Connecticut | Full-Time, 40 Hours per Week
A private residential estate in Roxbury, Connecticut is seeking an experienced and talented Private Chef to join its household team. The Chef will be responsible for preparing daily meals, as well as meals for houseguests and occasional events.
The ideal candidate will enjoy preparing healthy, seasonal, farm-to-table cuisine using high-quality ingredients, including produce grown in the estate’s organic vegetable garden. A genuine interest in seasonal cooking and working closely with the garden’s harvest is highly valued.
The position is full-time, approximately 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends and holidays as needed. Willingness and ability to travel to residences in France and California is required.
Candidates should be professional, flexible, discreet, organized, adaptable, and comfortable working collaboratively as part of a household team.
Duties
- Create varied seasonal menus based on the principals’ preferences, dietary needs, and availability of fresh ingredients.
- Prepare healthy, elegant, farm-to-table meals using high-quality ingredients.
- Incorporate produce and herbs from the estate’s organic vegetable garden into menus whenever seasonally appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with the estate’s vegetable garden team to understand seasonal availability and plan menus around the harvest.
- Grocery shop and source high-quality food, pantry items, and kitchen supplies.
- Prepare meals for weekends.
- Organize and manage the kitchen, refrigerators, freezers, pantry, and food inventory.
- Maintain exceptional kitchen cleanliness, organization, food safety, and sanitation standards throughout meal preparation and service.
- Leave the kitchen immaculate following meals and events.
- Prepare meals for houseguests and occasional private events.
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of seasonal, health-conscious, farm-to-table cooking.
- Experience working with fresh garden produce and an appreciation for organic and seasonally driven ingredients.
- Food and wine pairing knowledge preferred.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule based on the family’s needs and travel schedule.
- Willing and able to travel domestically and internationally, including to California and France.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Able to pass an in-depth background investigation.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Valid passport.
- Willingness to accommodate occasional weekend and holiday work.
- Professional, discreet, pleasant, and collaborative demeanor with the family, guests, and other estate team members.
