Communications & Outreach Assistant with Wee The People
About the Organization:
Wee The People is a Boston-based racial justice education project that partners with schools, libraries, museums, and community-based organizations to engage K-12 students in immersive learning experiences that center Black joy, confront injustice, and celebrate the power of resistance.
Through innovative, kid-focused programming, Wee The People aims to: ?
- INSPIRE children to notice injustice and discover the power of their own voices
- EXPLORE traditions of resistance and protest through the arts
SUPPORT adults in opening difficult conversations - with kids and with each other - - about difference, equity, and justice
Wee The People is grounded in the belief that if kids can understand fairness, they can understand justice - and that adults play a huge role in connecting kids' sense of fairness in their own lives to larger issues of injustice in the world.

Position Description:
We are seeking a creative, organized, and community-minded MassArt student to help Wee The People's work with the public and strengthen our connections with schools, families, and community partners.
This position is a great opportunity for students interested in graphic design, illustration, photography, communications, social practice, art education, or creative community engagement.
Responsibilities may include:
- Creating and scheduling engaging content for social media
- Updating and maintaining the Wee The People website
- Assisting with digital newsletters and email communications
- Designing simple promotional materials and graphics for programs and events
- Documenting programs through photography and storytelling (when appropriate)
- Supporting outreach to schools, libraries, museums, and community organizations
- Assisting with occasional public events and community programs
Qualifications:
We're looking for someone who:
- Is passionate about using creativity in support of social justice and racial equity
- Has strong visual communication and storytelling skills
- Is comfortable using design and communication tools (such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Squarespace, or similar platforms)
- Has experience?or a willingness to learn?website updates, social media, or digital communications
- Enjoys collaborating and working with people of diverse backgrounds
- Is organized, dependable, and able to work independently
Support / Supervision:
The student will receive regular mentorship and feedback from the Wee The People team through email, phone, virtual meetings, and occasional in-person meetings and events.
Expected Work Hours per Week:
6-8 hours per week

Flexible, with occasional evening or weekend events

PLEASE NOTE:
This position is part of the PartnershipWORKS program offered through MassArt's Center for Art and Community Partnerships (CACP). If you are hired for this position, you will become a member of the team at your community site AND a member of the CACP student cohort. You will have two supervisors, one through your host site and a second through CACP..
The requirements for holding a PartnershipWORKS position through CACP are:
- Commit to your position for the entire academic year (fall + spring semesters)
- Participate in monthly PartnershipWORKS sessions throughout the year, facilitated by CACP staff
- Complete time sheets in a timely manner, every two weeks
- Provide photo documentation of your work at your host site
- Thoughtful completion of all CACP evaluations
- Maintain communication with CACP staff regarding any challenges and/or successes related to your experience at your host site
