Job Summary
Under the Direction of the Internal Services Manager, this position will plan, organize, direct, and supervise personnel as assigned and a variety of preventative maintenance and repair of heavy-duty equipment, trucks, and light vehicles of the MSIDD/ED3 District Fleet.
Essential Functions
· Be able to perform all Fleet Technician duties as needed.
· Knowledge of District policies, rules, regulations, and procedures.
· Runs designated scheduling reports.
· Develop and recommend policies and procedures related to assigned work.
· Direct, oversee and participate in the development of the maintenance work plan; assign work activities, projects, and programs; monitor workflow; review and evaluate work products, methods, and procedures.
· Conduct Quality Assurance Quality Control inspection on technicians’ work, to ensure repairs are completed IAW manufactures specifications.
· Evaluate operations and activities of assigned responsibilities; recommend improvements and modifications; prepare various reports on operations and activities.
· Assist in developing department budget; prepare cost estimates for budget recommendations; submit justifications for equipment, materials, and supplies; monitor and control expenditure. Administer the approved department budget.
· Participate in the selection of staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; conduct performance evaluations; implement discipline procedures.
· Supervise preventive maintenance, routine repairs, and major overhauls on gas, diesel, electrical, and computerized heavy equipment, trucks, and light vehicles to ensure proper operation, including lubrication and replacement of worn parts.
· Supervises the use of specialized computer diagnostic test equipment, brake lathes, hydraulic presses and pullers, welding and cutting equipment, environmental air conditioning recovery/recharge equipment, fluid flush machines, and various hand tools to ascertain effective repairs.
· Maintains records and writes a variety of reports and memos on work performed, materials and equipment utilization, and Department project list; maintains daily and monthly reports.
· Troubleshoots, analyzes, disassembles, and reassembles major equipment components; detects operational and mechanical problems during preventative maintenance. Certifies proper operation as per manufacturers, specifications.
· Communicate effectively with other departments, customers, direct reports, and vendors.
· Correct and/or report any safety risks or hazards to management personnel.
· Responsibility to ensure that all personnel under your supervision are: Following and promoting safe work practices; Properly trained in safe work practices and procedures; Utilizing proper protective equipment. Operating equipment properly; Acknowledging the use of safeguards by other employees; Reporting any removal, displacement, damage, destruction, or tampering of safety devices, safeguards, notices, or warnings; Following OSHA regulations.
· Build and maintain a working environment of trust and teamwork; swiftly and effectively address issues that encourage a cohesive working environment.
· Perform related duties as assigned.
· Must be able to help train all necessary staff/supervisors on the correct methods for doing pre-trip inspections and the ability to spot check the process and enforce the daily practice.
Qualifications
· High School Diploma or GED.
· Must hold and maintain valid Arizona driver’s license.
· Must hold and maintain a CDL. If no current CDL must be able to obtain a CDL license with necessary endorsements within 180-days of date of hire.
· Must hold and maintain Section 609 Technician Certification to practice Refrigerant Recycling, Recovery and Reclamation as required by 40 CFR Part 82.40, or be able to obtain certification within the necessary six months of date of hire.
· Must be able to operate vehicles with either stick shift or automatic transmission.
· Must pass employment drug screening test and background check.

· Skilled in diagnosing and repairing mechanical, brake, fuel, and electrical defects in a wide variety of automotive and heavy-duty truck equipment.
· Skilled in diagnosing and repairing mechanical, brake, fuel, and electrical defects in wide variety of Construction and ground support equipment.
· Skilled in reading technical manuals and specifications.
· Skilled in the safe use of tools, materials, and equipment used in vehicle and equipment maintenance.
· Skilled in maintaining accurate service records.
· Must be able to effectively communicate verbally and with written instructions.
· Skilled in Team development.
· Principles and practices of supervision, training, and performance evaluations.
· Principles and practices of budget monitoring.
· The ability to work overtime or various shifts as assigned.
· The ability to multitask.
· All other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
· High School Diploma or GED.
· Working knowledge of equipment utilized in job duties.
· Knowledge of repair parts management.
· Working with Fleet management Software.
· Workflow management.
· Must have 5 years’ Fleet maintenance experience with at least 2 years supervising Fleet maintenance operations.
Preferred Experience
· Have prior qualified experience in professional maintenance and repair of gasoline / diesel operated equipment and hydraulic/electrical systems.
