POSITION DESCRIPTION 

TITLE: Educator

DEPARTMENT: Education   

DIRECT SUPERVISOR: School and Teacher Programs Supervisor

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Part Time/ Non-Exempt

PAY RATE: $21.00 per hour

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:

The Crocker Art Museum brings people together and connects them in unexpected ways with art, ideas, each other, and the world around them. The Educator role provides facilitation for both the School and Teacher Programs and Youth and Family Programs, providing hands-on educational and experiential services for the youth and families the Crocker serve.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Prepare and conduct age-appropriate arts education programs designed to encourage pre-K-12 students to appreciate and understand artmaking and art history through use of the Crocker, its collections, and resources.
Implementing hands-on art classes and workshops for students and/or curriculum-based art workshops for teachers as part of Tour + Art Workshop studio sessions, Artist-to-Go presentations, the Crocker’s Art Ark, Crocker Art Camp sessions, and Teacher Workshop demonstrations (usually in the evening and on the weekends)
Assist in evaluating workshops and classes through maintaining a log of activity observations, track attendance; distribute, collect, and collate program evaluation surveys.
Provide on-going classroom, studio, and supply maintenance, including cleaning and repairing of activity stations.
Occasionally assist in coordinating Art Ark moves from site to site and aid in monitoring security and safety of the Ark, including operating the wheelchair lift.
Update School Programs Supervisor and Studio Manager on needed supplies on an ongoing basis.
Maintain an awareness of best practices in Museum and art education, including an active awareness of education programs at the Museum.
Attend staff, committee, and community meetings as assigned.
Perform related duties and special projects as assigned, including Public Program events which can occur in the evenings and on the weekends.

AGREEMENTS:   

The Museum will: 

Be responsible for all booking, managing calendar of school sites, collecting payment, and managing contracts with the schools and community partners. 
Manage and fund all supply purchasing; all supplies will be purchased or reimbursed by Crocker Art Museum

The instructor will:  

Complete LiveScan which will be reimbursed by Crocker Art Museum  
Communicate with each school site coordinator or School and Teacher Programs Coordinator for daily logistics as necessary
Notify the Museum of supply needs with 2 weeks (preferred) advance notice 
Communicate with School + Teacher Programs Supervisor if instructor is unable to come to work. The instructor will provide as much notice as possible in the event of an absence.
The Instructor will be knowledgeable in Crocker Art Museum Education Department programs and have a willingness to cross-train and sub in other program areas including but not limited to Youth and Family Programs, Artist-to-Go, Tour + Workshop, and the Art Ark
There will be no hours or pay for days that schools are not in session or have cancelled program scheduling.  
The Instructor will only be paid for hours worked. 
Instructor will provide a current resume, short bio, and digital photograph. 
Complete necessary employment paperwork
Instructor will turn in hours on a timely basis to the School & Teacher Coordinator.

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of Museum Education, and familiarity with lesson planning and state standards.
Experience with teaching and classroom management.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365
Ability to keep accurate, thorough and up-to-date records and statistics.
Demonstrated experience coordinating complex projects with diverse stakeholders and working under deadlines.
Ability to offer excellent customer service to the public.
Engage in intellectual curiosity and problem-solving ability.
Ability to monitor own work to ensure quality and accuracy.
Understanding and affinity for Museums and the art industry.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others and across departments.
