Position Summary
The Director of Strategic Initiatives provides leadership and coordination for high-priority projects and board governance activities, aligned with CRIHB’s purpose and strategic goals. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, this position serves as a key advisor and project lead for initiatives that advance organizational performance, strengthen governance practices, and enhance stakeholder engagement. The role requires exceptional organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills to manage complex projects, support board operations, and ensure compliance with governance standards.
Essential Functions

Lead strategic initiatives assigned by the CEO, ensuring timely execution and measurable outcomes.

Oversee board governance processes, including preparation of board materials, compliance with bylaws, and coordination of board meetings.

Operate as a Tribal liaison to the Tribal Government Consultation Committee.
- Create and maintain contacts with all members and participating Tribal governments.

Serve as liaison between the CEO and the Board of Directors, fostering effective communication and alignment on priorities.

Monitor and report on the progress of special projects, identifying risks and recommending solutions.

Ensure adherence to governance best practices and regulatory requirements applicable to Tribal health organizations.

Collaborate with executive leadership to develop proposals addressing unmet health needs and strategic opportunities.

Lead meetings with external partners, including but not limited to fundraising and partnership agreements.
- Regular and predictable attendance.
- Perform other relevant duties as required and assigned.
Additional Responsibilities

Maintain a valid, unrestricted driver’s license and insurability under CRIHB’s automobile insurance.

Occasional overnight travel within CRIHB’s service area.

Ability to drive up to seven (7) hours per day.
Qualifications
CRIHB recognizes that an equivalent combination of education, training, and progressively responsible leadership experience may be considered. A high school diploma or equivalent is required for all applicants.

Education and Experience Requirements
-
Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a closely related field; and

Ten (10) years of progressively responsible leadership experience, including:

Multi-department or cross-functional oversight
-
Fiscal and operational accountability
-
At least three (3) years in a supervisory or management role at the mid-level to executive level.
Applicants who do not possess a bachelor’s degree (but meet the high school minimum requirement) must have at least sixteen (16) years of progressively responsible leadership experience demonstrating comparable scope and responsibility. This must include at least four (4) years involving multi-departmental or cross-agency oversight.
