Job Description and Duties

Under direction of the Enterprise Network Manager, an Information Technology Manager I, the Information Technology Specialist I performs a wide variety of tasks in support of Department of State Hospitals requiring regular innovative problem-solving within broadly stated and non-specific guidelines, including multiple program areas, and involving planning, developing, and implementing technological solutions that are essential to the mission of the Department of State Hospitals.

The primary duties of the IT Specialist I lie within the Information Security Engineering, IT Project Management, and Systems Engineering domains of the IT Specialist I classification. This includes, security aspects of the initiation, design, development, testing, operation and defense of IT data and environments to address sources of disruption; and/or management or oversight of all phases of the project management and system development life cycles to ensure efficient delivery of a unique IT product, services or system; and/or architecture, design, configuration, operation and maintenance of systems discovery and planning, designing, configuring, administering an sustaining the operation of a defined system including network, server, storage, operating systems, database, program, hardware and software.

Working Conditions

This position reports to the Allenby Building in Sacramento. A hybrid Telework schedule, consistent with the State of California's in-office requirement, may be considered with prior approval from management. The incumbent may also be required to travel throughout California as needed, with prior notice.
The State’s Commute Programs provide bicycle, mass transit and vanpool incentives to eligible state employees. The State’s mass transit incentive pays 100% of the transit pass up to the IRS maximum of $340 per month in 2026
