Full Job Description

ASSOCIATE OR SENIOR ARCHAEOLOGIST (Folsom or San Diego)

We have an immediate opening for an Associate or Senior Archaeologist in one of the following California offices: Folsom or San Diego. This individual will work closely with our three Principal archaeologists to become an established and integral part of our Cultural Management Team. Our Cultural Management Team offers specialized expertise to local, state, and federal agencies across California. We collaborate closely with clients and our internal engineering team to design projects that not only meet community needs but also minimize or avoid impacts to cultural resources. This approach ensures that we respect and preserve cultural heritage while delivering essential services. Achieving this balance requires creative thinking, strong collaboration, and input from a variety of disciplines.

Core Job Responsibilities:

· Conduct literature research and record searches

· Coordinate Native American consultation

· Lead archaeological field surveys and prepare site documentation

· Conduct archaeological excavation (testing and data recovery)

· Write cultural reports including, but not limited to, Caltrans-formatted cultural reports and other federal agency Section 106 formatted cultural reports, as the primary author

· Write the cultural sections of CEQA/NEPA environmental documents

· Work with clients, regulatory authorities, and subconsultants

· Assist with the development and implementation of mitigation and monitoring reporting programs

· Develop creative solutions to avoid impacts to cultural resources

Minimum Requirements:

We are seeking an individual with a minimum of 5 years’ experience who will be responsible for field surveys, recordation of archaeological resources, archival research, Native American Tribal Government consultation, resource evaluations, construction monitoring, and cultural report drafting needed to comply with both the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) regulations. Additionally, you will have:

· Completed an archaeological field school.

· Completed a BA, BS, or MA in anthropology, archaeology, history, geoarchaeology, or cultural resource management.

· Associate Position: 5-15 years of experience in cultural resource management/archaeology, preferably in California.

· Senior Position: 10-20 years of experience in cultural resource management/archaeology, preferably in California.

· CA Driver’s license

· Applicants must have substantial experience with:

o Archaeological Field Survey

o Extended Phase I Presence/Absence Testing

o Report Writing ( author)

o Native American Consultation

o Historical Groups Consultation

o Archival Research

o GPS/GIS data collection and mapping

o Strong understanding of CEQA, Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, and NEPA

o Experience with public works projects, transportation projects, and/or the Caltrans Section 106 process, is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Will sit, stand or walk for the entire duration of a workday
Will use telephone, computer system, email, or other electronic devices on a regular basis
Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception
Work indoors and outdoors. Outdoor work can be in remote or urban environments
Usually work near others, such as in a shared office space
Occasionally wear protective gear, such as a hard hat
Sometimes work in noisy or distracting work environments
Occasionally travel to project sites by automobile, train, and/or airplane

FLSA Status:Full-Time Exempt

Compensation:

· Competitive salary ranging from $80,000 - $130,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.
