We are seeking a highly experienced, safety-minded, and leadership-oriented aviation professional to serve as our FAA Part 141 Chief Pilot (Chief Instructor). In this critical, FAA-approved role, you will oversee all flight and ground training operations, manage our team of flight instructors, and ensure absolute compliance with 14 CFR Part 141 regulations.
The ideal candidate possesses exceptional instructional skills, a deep-seated commitment to safety, and the administrative expertise required to maintain our training standards.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
Your duties span regulatory compliance, safety oversight, personnel management, and student progress:
- Regulatory Compliance: Maintain and update the school’s Part 141 Training Course Outlines (TCOs) and standard operating procedures to ensure continuous FAA compliance. Serve as the primary liaison with our local Flight Standards District Office (FSDO).
- Instructor Standardization: Conduct initial and recurrent annual proficiency checks for all flight and ground instructors to ensure uniform, high-quality instruction.
- Quality Assurance & Stage Checks: Administer stage checks and end-of-course tests, or effectively delegate this authority to approved Assistant Chiefs or Check Instructors.
- Record Keeping: Oversee, audit, and certify all student training records, graduation certificates, and recommendations for FAA practical tests.
- Operations Oversight: Monitor daily flight training activities. You or an approved Assistant Chief must remain available (in person or via phone/radio) at all times while training is actively being conducted.
- Leadership & Mentorship: Lead, schedule, and mentor our team of Flight Instructors, fostering a culture of safety, professionalism, and career growth.
Position Requirements & Qualifications
Candidates must meet the minimum FAA regulatory requirements under 14 CFR § 141.35 to be designated for our courses:
Certificate & Rating Requirements:
- Hold a current Commercial Pilot or Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate.
- Hold a current Flight Instructor Certificate (CFI, CFII, and MEI) with ratings appropriate to the courses taught.
- Hold a current First or Second-Class FAA Medical Certificate.
Flight & Instructional Experience (FAA Minimums):
- For Private/Commercial Courses:
- At least 1,000 hours as Pilot-in-Command (PIC).
- At least 2 years of primary flight training experience AND 500 flight hours of instruction; OR a total of 750 hours of flight instruction.
- For Instrument Courses:
- At least 100 hours of flight time under actual or simulated instrument conditions.
- At least 1,000 hours as PIC.
- At least 2 years of instrument flight training experience AND 250 flight hours of instrument instruction; OR a total of 400 hours of instrument flight instruction.
Knowledge & Skill Requirements:
- Must successfully pass the FAA Chief Instructor knowledge and proficiency tests.
- Deep understanding of 14 CFR Parts 61, 91, and 141.
- Excellent organizational, administrative, and interpersonal communication skills.

KSAC Airport is 10 minutes to downtown Sacramento. San Francisco is 1.5 hours away. Napa is 45 minutes away. Lake Tahoe is 1 hour away. Enjoy the low cost city life, while you build your time or work as a full time instructor. Lots of entertainment and weekend Getaways nearby.
KMOD is our satellite location. We are looking for instructors to be assigned to Modesto full time.
