Full Job Description

We are looking for an experienced, detail-oriented, and self-motivated Senior CNC Machinist to join our fast-paced machine shop. In this role, you will own the machining process from print to finished part, working directly with our engineering team on complex, first-of-their-kind prototypes and short-run production.

Beyond core machining execution, you will play a key role in shaping our shop culture by mentoring younger machinists, refining machining strategies, and driving continuous improvement in our shop processes.

Key Responsibilities

Machining & Prototyping Ownership

Program, set up, and operate multi-axis CNC mills (3-axis and 5-axis) and lathes for high-precision, low-volume, and prototype parts.
Interpret complex engineering prints, CAD models, and GD&T specifications.
Develop custom tooling, workholding, and fixturing strategies for novel or difficult-to-machine components.
Run first-article parts, perform in-process QA/inspection, and transition proven processes into short-run production.
Collaborate directly with mechanical and electrical engineers to provide Design for Manufacturability (DFM) feedback and iterate on designs in real time.

Mentorship & Shop Leadership

Mentor, train, and guide entry-level machinists and apprentices on setup techniques, safety practices, print reading, and machining fundamentals.
Perform code and setup reviews for junior team members to ensure process repeatability and prevent tooling crashes.
Help cultivate a collaborative, growth-focused environment where learning and skill development are prioritized.
Lead by example in maintaining high shop standards, tool organization, inventory management, and equipment maintenance.

Our machine shop is central to how that works. It's where the parts our engineers design actually get made, measured, tested, broken, redesigned, and made again. When a design needs to change on a Tuesday, we cut new parts on a Tuesday.

Minimum Qualifications

5+ years of hands-on CNC machining experience, including setup, programming, and operation of multi-axis mills and lathes.
Proven track record of mentoring, coaching, or training junior machinists, trade students, or apprentices.
Advanced proficiency in CAM software (Fusion 360, Mastercam, or equivalent) and G-code manipulation.
Strong ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, CAD models, and GD&T standards (ASME Y14.5).
Experience with custom fixture design, workholding strategy, and tooling selection.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, changing environment with evolving priorities.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

7+ years of experience in high-precision prototype machining or job-shop environments.
Deep proficiency with Fusion 360 and its Manufacturing extension.
Experience operating Haas and Fanuc controls, including 5-axis machines.
Familiarity with CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion 360) for model preparation and fixture design.
Working knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 quality standards and revision control procedures.
