The Senior Manager of Revenue is a new and critical leadership role shared across both California for the Arts (CFTA) and California Arts Advocates (CAA). Reporting to the CEO, this inaugural position will build and lead a diversified revenue program that supports the long-term sustainability and growth of both organizations.
This role goes beyond traditional fundraising. The Senior Manager of Revenue will pursue the full spectrum of revenue opportunity — individual and institutional philanthropy, earned income, contracts, grants, corporate partnerships, sponsorships, licensing, membership, and other mission-aligned revenue streams — and will help determine which opportunities are worth pursuing and how to build systems to capture them efficiently.
The ideal candidate is an entrepreneurial self-starter who owns the full revenue cycle — from identifying and closing opportunities to managing the operational backbone that supports them, including invoicing, payment follow-up, recordkeeping, and reconciliation. This is a role for someone who moves fluidly between strategy and execution, finds satisfaction in both the big picture and the details, and takes pride in running a tight operation. Experience in nonprofit development is valued, but candidates from business development, social enterprise, partnerships, or commercial roles in mission-driven environments are strongly encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
Revenue Strategy & Business Development
- Execute and innovate on a recently created 12-month revenue plan aligned with two milestone moments: CAA's 30th Anniversary and CFTA's 20th Anniversary
- Identify and pursue non-traditional revenue opportunities including earned income, licensing, fee-for-service, and mission-aligned partnerships
- Assess and prioritize new revenue opportunities based on organizational capacity and strategic fit
- Partner with the CEO on long-range revenue strategy and multi-year planning
- Help build a culture of revenue entrepreneurship across staff and board leadership
Philanthropy & Individual Giving
- Serve as the primary point of contact for member inquiries, ensuring exceptional customer service and resolving issues promptly
- Manage a portfolio of members, major donors and prospects
- Lead cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for membership and donations
- Prepare institutional donor materials, proposals, and briefing documents
- Support communications and engagement opportunities
- Build and maintain systems for pipeline development and donor tracking
- Maintain familiarity with approved organizational talking points (e.g., program status updates) for consistent messaging with members, donors, and the public.
Institutional & Corporate Revenue
- Manage foundation and corporate relationships in partnership with the CEO and Director of Programs
- Pursue both philanthropic and transactional corporate partnerships — sponsorships, co-branding, affinity programs, and other mutually beneficial arrangements
- Coordinate grant proposals, reports, and stewardship activities
- Identify new institutional and corporate funding opportunities
- Maintain a grants and partnership calendar with clear deadlines and accountabilities
- Maintain familiarity with approved organizational talking points (e.g., program status updates) for communications with funders
Revenue Operations & Financial Follow-Through
- Draft, issue, and track invoices for memberships, sponsorships, partnerships, earned income, and fee-for-service agreements
- Follow up on outstanding payments and maintain accurate receivables records
- Reconcile revenue activity with finance staff or bookkeeper on a regular basis
- Maintain contracts, agreements, and documentation for all revenue relationships
- Manage the CRM and donor database as an active working system — not just a repository
- Improve systems for donor and partner stewardship, segmentation, and engagement
- Coordinate revenue tracking and reporting across campaigns, appeals, sponsorships, and special initiatives
Board Engagement & Coordination
- Support board participation in revenue generation and relationship activation
- Help board members identify, cultivate, and steward donors and partners
- Develop tools, talking points, and materials for board fundraising use
- Coordinate revenue updates and reporting for board meetings
Cross-Department Integration
- Coordinate revenue activity with communications, events, membership, and programs teams
- Ensure earned income and partnership opportunities are surfaced and captured across departments
- Lead annual fundraising campaigns, member drives, and special initiatives
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will bring:
- 5+ years of experience in fundraising, business development, revenue strategy, or a closely related field
- Demonstrated success identifying and closing revenue opportunities across multiple streams
- Experience managing or contributing to revenue programs of at least $1.5 million annually
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a track record of building something — a program, a pipeline, a system — often with limited resources
- Proven comfort with the full revenue cycle, including invoicing, payment tracking, and financial follow-through
- Strong relationship-building, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on, detail-oriented execution
- Comfort working in a lean environment where one person owns end-to-end execution
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and the value of arts and culture
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in arts, advocacy, public policy, or related mission-driven sectors
- Familiarity with California's arts and cultural communities
