Summary:
The ED Tech functions primarily in direct patient care, and demonstrates �competent� clinical practice with a variety of patients. The tech in the ED works as part of a team with a common goal of offering patient centered, timely care, in a safe and friendly environment. The tech in this position offers individualized compassionate care to emergency department patients, observation patients, and outpatients based on the direction of the physician and RN. The tech pleasantly provides nonjudgmental care for the acutely ill, as well as the non-acute patient. This position requires the ability to perform multiple ancillary roles including, but not limited to, performing duties and procedures within the scope of their practice as assigned, specimen collection, vital signs, stocking of supplies, cleaning, and transportation of patients, clerical responsibilities, lab collection, respiratory treatments, and other duties as assigned. This position requires assisting the nurse, physician, and other members of the team to provide relationship based patient centered care. The tech in this role works with multiple types of sophisticated equipment and handles various types of patients in a friendly and frequently stressful environment.
Responsibilities:
40%* The tech as part of a multidisciplinary team, maintains a friendly customer oriented attitude at all times. It is expected that all team members will work together to provide the best possible care to MyMichigan Health�s patients, families, visitors, staff, community members, and any other person that is encountered while representing MyMichigan Health. 30%* Follows direction from RN to provide services as prescribed by the physician�s authorized plan of care and accepted standards of evidence based practice that is within the tech�s scope of practice. Provides direct patient care including minor treatments, answering call lights, assisting with transfers, responding to alarms, and other duties as assigned.
20%* Reports effectiveness of treatment plan to the RN and makes suggestions or participates in updating/revising the treatment plan in collaboration with other team members, utilizing current information to improve patient care.
10%* The tech is knowledgeable and compliant with all local, state, and federal regulations and guidelines. The tech maintains knowledge of MyMichigan Health and ED specific policies and procedures relating to the care provided, and maintains professional standards.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Safety

Education

Secretary
o All Clerical Duties.

Ordering and Stocking
o Assists with ordering as indicated.
May include: Orders from purchasing weekly for medical supplies, lab supplies and office supplies.

� Stock exam room with supplies and fill hand cleaner bottles.
Demonstrates competency in Infection Prevention and Control Practices and Policies -
Possesses an understanding of infection prevention and control measures designed to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
o Maintains the standards of the infection prevention and control policies.
o Implements and maintains isolation techniques per policy.
o Follows hand hygiene policies and utilizes personal protective equipment as required.

This position must show knowledge, ability, and competence in treating patients who range in age from pre-natal to 100+ years.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.
Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
