Summary

This position is located at Bureau of Engraving and Printing, with in the Office of Environment, Health and Safety at WCF, in Fort Worth, TX. As an Environmental Protection Specialist, you will be responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating Bureau-wide programs designed to ensure safe, healthy, environmentally sound facilities for employees, contractors, visitors and neighbors at its facilities.

Duties

As an Environmental Protection Specialist, you will:

Serve as a Program Manager for industrial waste management, including hazardous and non-hazardous wastes, waste minimization and pollution prevention, spill preparedness, prevention, and response.
Maintain all waste management records and data to meet regulatory reporting and Executive Order requirements.
Prepare technical reports of environmental analyses and studies undertaken, including findings and recommendations.
Develop and prepare instructional and informational material, including official bulletins, newsletters, guides and etc., to promote awareness, understanding, and acceptance of environmental programs and procedures.
Take corrective action or reports to proper authorities those safety discrepancies that would be harmful to personnel and/or equipment.

During this time, your performance, conduct, and suitability for continued employment will be evaluated. You will not automatically convert to permanent status at the end of the probationary (or trial) period. Must successfully complete a background investigation.
Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.
Have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
Undergo a tax compliance review.

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized experience for the GS-13 level is one year of experience at the GS-12 level or equivalent that has equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Specialized experience includes:

Assisting in the development of, or participating in environmental programs, encompassing hazardous and non-hazardous waste compliance, spill preparedness prevention, and response plans; AND

Making recommendations in matters concerning regulatory requirements that relate to industrial wastewater pretreatment or sanitary wastewater treatment, and storm water management; AND

Serving on a team that operates and maintains an industrial wastewater pretreatment plant or sanitary wastewater treatment plant; or managing a contract for the operations and maintenance of an industrial wastewater pretreatment plant or sanitary wastewater treatment plant.

You will be assessed on the following competencies (knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics): Interpersonal Skills, Reasoning, Flexibility, Self-Management, Attention to Detail, Influencing/Negotiating, Stress Tolerance, Customer Service, Integrity/Honesty, Reading, Teamwork.

If you are a displaced or surplus Federal employee eligible for the Career Transition Assistance Plan (CTAP)/Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP), achieve a well-qualified score of 85 or higher to receive priority consideration.

The facility typically shuts down annually between Christmas and New Year's Day. As such, all BEP employees must take leave for workdays during the shutdown period.
This position requires that the successful candidate undergo personnel vetting, which includes a background investigation and enrollment upon onboarding into "Continuous Vetting." Enrollment in Continuous Vetting will result in automated record checks being conducted throughout one's employment with Treasury. The successful candidate will also be enrolled into FBI's Rap Back service, which will allow Treasury to receive notification from the FBI of criminal matters (e.g., arrests, charges, convictions) involving enrolled individuals in near real-time. SUITABILITY, CLEARANCE & REQUIREMENTS: A background investigation will be required for all new hires. The background investigation process conducted by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing is very thorough. This announcement uses the Rule of Many, a numerical ranking process under which eligible applicants receive a numeric score based on the assessment process for the position.
