Controller (Construction Supply & Distribution) — Addison, IL

Employment Type: Direct Hire
Salary Range: $80,000-$120,000
Work Schedule: Onsite - Monday through Friday
Location: Addison, IL

Overview

Join a growing construction supply and distribution company in Addison, Illinois as the Controller and take ownership of the full accounting and financial operations that power the business. In this highly visible role, you’ll lead accurate reporting, inventory and cost analysis, cash flow oversight, and continuous process improvements—partnering closely with sales, operations, purchasing, and executive leadership to strengthen profitability, improve working capital, and support smart, strategic decisions as the company scales.

Required Skills

5+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience in an inventory-driven environment (construction supply, wholesale distribution, building materials, manufacturing, or similar)
Strong command of inventory accounting, cost accounting, and financial reporting
Hands-on experience with:
- General ledger, AP, AR, payroll coordination, fixed assets, and month-end close
- Budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis
- AR processes including customer billing, credit management, collections, and cash application
Proven ability to manage month-end and year-end close processes with accuracy and timeliness
Leadership experience with direct reports; ability to mentor and develop a team
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
High attention to detail, accountability, and ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment

Nice to Have Skills

Experience with ERP systems used in distribution or construction supply environments
Knowledge of inventory management systems, warehouse operations, and supply chain processes
Experience supporting multi-location operations and/or high-volume transaction environments
Familiarity with margin analysis, pricing trends, freight impacts, and product/customer profitability tracking

Preferred Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (equivalent experience considered)
5+ years of relevant progressive experience in an inventory-centric business

Other Requirements

Ability to partner cross-functionally with sales, purchasing, warehouse, operations, and executive leadership
Ability to coordinate annual audits, tax filings, and relationships with external partners (accountants, banks, insurance providers)
Working knowledge of compliance expectations, including applicable accounting standards and sales/use tax considerations
CPA or CMA certification is a plus
