The Opportunity
Tri County Lumber is seeking a talented Draftsperson / Building Designer to join our Design Team. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys turning ideas into professionally designed, permit-ready construction plans while working directly with builders and homeowners on exciting residential and light commercial projects.
This is much more than simply drawing plans. You'll collaborate with Builders & their clients and prospective Homeowners directly in addition too our Sales, Estimating and Purchasing teams to help customers move confidently from concept through construction.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Design custom homes from concept through permit-ready construction drawings
- Produce complete construction documents for:
- Custom Homes
- Home Additions
- Remodels
- Garages
- Decks & Outdoor Living Spaces
- Post Frame Buildings
- Shouses & Barndominiums
- Light Commercial Buildings
- Meet with homeowners, builders and contractors to understand project goals
- Prepare detailed floor plans, elevations, sections and construction details
- Ensure drawings meet applicable Minnesota Building Code requirements
- Coordinate structural and engineering requirements when necessary
- Create high-quality 3D renderings and presentation drawings
- Revise plans based on customer feedback and municipal comments
- Work closely with our estimating team to ensure accurate material takeoffs
- Assist customers through the permitting process
- Maintain organized project files and design standards
QualificationsPreferred Experience:
- 3+ years of residential drafting or architectural design experience
- Strong understanding of residential construction methods
- Experience producing permit-ready construction documents
- Knowledge of Minnesota Residential Building Code
- Experience designing wood-framed structures
Software Experience:
Experience with one or more of the following:
- Chief Architect (Preferred)
- AutoCAD
- Revit (Required)
- SoftPlan
- SketchUp
- Lumion or similar rendering software
- Microsoft Office
