Full Job Description

Position Summary

The Surgical Technologist is responsible for providing direct support to the surgical team by preparing the operating room, maintaining a sterile environment, anticipating the needs of the surgeon, and assisting during surgical procedures. This position is ideal for a skilled, flexible professional seeking a part-time schedule in a small, team-oriented outpatient surgery center.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Prepare and maintain a sterile operating room before, during, and after surgical procedures.
Set up surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment according to the planned procedure.
Assist the surgeon by passing instruments, supplies, and equipment during surgery.
Maintain the integrity of the sterile field throughout all procedures.
Perform surgical counts with the circulating nurse according to facility policy.
Clean, inspect, and prepare instruments for sterilization and assist with inventory management.
Ensure proper handling and disposal of biohazardous materials.
Assist with room turnover between procedures to maintain efficient patient flow.
Monitor equipment for proper function and report maintenance needs.
Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nurses, and other staff to provide safe, high-quality patient care.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and comply with all regulatory, infection prevention, and safety standards.
Perform other duties as assigned to support daily operations of the surgery center.

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
Current Surgical Technologist certification (CST) preferred or required in accordance with state regulations.
Current CPR/BLS certification.
Minimum of one year of operating room experience preferred; ambulatory surgery experience is a plus.
Knowledge of sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, and aseptic practices.
Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
Ability to work independently in a small, collaborative environment.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand for extended periods during surgical procedures.
Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds.
Manual dexterity sufficient to handle surgical instruments and equipment.
Ability to bend, reach, and assist with patient positioning and room setup.

Schedule

Approximately 8 operating days per month.
Typical operating hours: 8am - 5pm
Additional hours may be available for staff meetings, training, equipment processing, or inventory as needed.
