The Laundry & Houseman supports the housekeeping department by maintaining clean, safe, and presentable guest areas, hotel grounds, pool areas, laundry areas, and other hotel facilities.
This is a physically active position requiring a dependable and hardworking individual who is comfortable working both indoors and outdoors, including hot, cold, windy, and rainy weather conditions when safe.
The duties listed below are not all-inclusive. Additional reasonable duties related to housekeeping, laundry, cleaning, hotel operations, or property maintenance may be assigned based on hotel needs.
Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesLaundry Duties
- Operate commercial washers and dryers.
- Wash, dry, fold, and organize hotel linens and towels.
- Keep the laundry area clean and organized.
- Sort and distribute clean linens and towels.
- Assist with linen and supply needs.
- Work some Saturdays performing laundry duties as scheduled.
Houseman & Hotel Duties
- Vacuum and clean hallways, stairways, common areas, entrances, elevators, and other assigned areas.
- Vacuum and shampoo carpeted stairs and other carpeted areas.
- Remove trash and debris from hotel and employee areas.
- Break down cardboard boxes and properly dispose of them.
- Carry and move boxes, supplies, linens, equipment, and other items weighing up to approximately 20 pounds.
- Keep housekeeping storage areas clean and organized.
- Report maintenance issues, damage, safety hazards, or unusual conditions to management.
Outdoor & Property Duties
- Clean and maintain exterior areas surrounding the hotel.
- Pick up litter, trash, leaves, branches, and other debris.
- Remove animal/pet waste as necessary using proper sanitation procedures.
- Use a leaf blower around sidewalks, entrances, parking areas, pool areas, and other exterior spaces.
- Clean and maintain the outdoor grills.
- Pressure wash sidewalks, entrances, patios, pool areas, and other assigned areas.
- Maintain a clean and presentable hotel property.
- Perform outdoor cleaning duties in hot, cold, windy, or rainy weather when conditions are safe.
- Assist with seasonal, special, and deep-cleaning projects.
Other Duties
Hotel needs can change from day to day. Employees may be assigned additional reasonable duties that are not specifically listed above, including cleaning, organizing, moving supplies or equipment, assisting other departments, special projects, or other tasks that support the cleanliness, safety, appearance, and operation of the hotel.
Physical Requirements
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, pull, and climb stairs.
- Lift and carry items weighing up to approximately 20 pounds.
- Move laundry, boxes, supplies, and cleaning equipment.
- Operate equipment such as vacuums, carpet shampooers, leaf blowers, and pressure washers.
- Work indoors and outdoors for extended periods.
- Work in varying weather conditions when conditions are safe.
- Perform repetitive cleaning and physical tasks throughout the workday.
Qualifications
- Previous hotel, housekeeping, laundry, janitorial, or cleaning experience preferred but not required.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently.
- Willing to perform indoor and outdoor cleaning duties.
- Comfortable performing physically demanding work.
- Able to follow instructions and safety procedures.
- Able to work cooperatively with housekeeping and other hotel departments.
- Attention to detail and pride in maintaining a clean environment.
- Ability to work weekends and holidays as scheduled.
Work Environment
This position works throughout the hotel, including guest areas, hallways, stairways, laundry facilities, storage areas, pool areas, and exterior grounds.
Outdoor work may be required in hot, cold, windy, or rainy weather when conditions are safe.
Work assignments may vary based on hotel needs, occupancy, weather, staffing, and operational requirements.
