Full Job Description

This is manual and clerical work involving lead supervision for the City’s central mailroom facility, to include the receipt and delivery of mail, to and from the U.S. Post Office, and the receipt and sorting of mail for citywide departmental pickup and delivery. Work involves supervisory responsibility for efficient processing and the pickup, receipt, sorting, and delivery of interoffice and postal mail; operating various types of postal equipment, including postal scales, sealers, and postage meters; providing information on mailing services and maintaining records, inventories, and reports; and performing according to well established and defined procedures. Work assignments may occasionally involve strenuous manual work in addition to clerical tasks. An employee in this classification must interact with employees, co-workers and the public using considerable tact and patience; is expected to exercise a high degree of discretion when handling sensitive or confidential information or records; and works with considerable independence and initiative.

Salary: $17.83 - $25.17 Hourly

To Qualify

Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:

Possess a high school diploma or GED equivalency.

Possess and continue to maintain a valid Driver License.

Be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Be able to prepare and maintain records of activities.

Be able to maintain sufficient physical strength to lift and move heavy materials, including the loading and unloading of vehicles used for mail deliveries.

Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:

Have considerable experience in delivering mail or supplies or a related activity.

Have experience with a local government mail room.

Have knowledge or experience with general postal rules, methods, and guidelines.

Selection Process

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT

The successful candidate must be either a resident of the City of St. Petersburg as of his or her date of appointment, or establish primary residency within the city limits of St. Petersburg within six months of completing the probationary period. Furthermore, as long as the successful candidate is employed in this classification, he or she must reside within the city limits of St. Petersburg. This requirement is not applicable to current City employees who were hired before October 20, 1997.
