Full Job Description

PNW Veg Co dba NORPAC is seeking applications for a Quality Assurance Supervisor to join our team on-site at our plant north of Salem, Oregon.

The Quality Assurance (QA) Supervisor serves as the primary point of contact for food safety and quality matters on the production floor. They are responsible for ensuring that all assigned tasks are completed accurately and on time during their shift. The QA Supervisor also oversees daily activities of the quality team to ensure work is performed safely, effectively, and in full alignment with company standard operating procedures. They provide guidance and direction to keep the team focused, compliant, and productive. Employees in this role are expected to model strong leadership and support a plant-wide culture of Safety, Food Safety, Communication, Quality, and meeting customer expectations.

REPSPONSIBILITIES

Oversee all quality staff and activities during the assigned shift, including scheduling, task assignments, coaching, and corrective actions. Provide ongoing training to QA technicians and leads on company policies, procedures, and quality standards. Supervise, assign, and perform grading of outside purchase samples. Supervise and assist with rework projects, ensuring proper documentation and compliance.
Step in to perform QA Lead or Technician duties as needed.
Conduct routine pre-op, post-op, and operational inspections of production lines. Monitor production to ensure products meet specifications and communicate immediate correction needs.
Perform daily documented review of HACCP monitoring activities. Document all food safety and quality issues for daily management review. Place product on Quality Hold when necessary, review hold status, determine product disposition (e.g., destroy, reinspect, relot), and coordinate product recalls from storage for rework. Work directly with FSIS and USDA officials to address deficiencies promptly.
Review and sign all quality and food safety records daily and ensure proper filing.
Use aseptic techniques to collect samples for microbiological testing and manage the documentation, organization, and delivery of routine samples. Conduct titrations for sanitizing systems and adjust concentrations as needed.
Post and verify blancher temperatures; review and sign recording charts. Perform process validations, verification checks, and routine equipment calibrations (thermometers, scales, etc.). Monitor rework areas for temperature control and direct product handling accordingly.
Lead annual surveys such as glass, magnet, and metal detection audits.
Obtain and maintain forklift certification to provide short-term production support.
Complete other duties as assigned by Quality Manager and plant leadership.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Effective verbal and written English communication skills.
Proficient with typing and Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook. Able to quickly learn and utilize company inventory system Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (NAV).
Excellent attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, some holidays, and any shift.
Ability to switch between tasks efficiently and manage multiple priorities.
Capable of working independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively within a team.
Basic mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and the ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages.
Ability to carry out a variety of instructions.
Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to address issues involving multiple variables in standardized situations.
Good judgment in observing, evaluating, and assessing product quality.
Ability to operate standard company equipment such as calculators, weight scales, calipers, and sieve-sizing devices.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in food science, biology, microbiology, chemistry or a related physical or life science.
Familiarity with food safety and quality issues that make up an integral part of HACCP, ODA/FDA regulations and GFSI/BRC audit specifications.
Previous leadership and/or supervision experience.
Experience with using iPads or the ability to quickly learn how to use.
Prior experience working in a food processing facility.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS

Physical Demands: Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. Frequently required to talk or hear. Occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and taste and smell. Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds or more with assistance. Requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and heat and/or cold. The employee may be regularly exposed to chilled temperatures of 40-45°F. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must be able to work rotating shifts during the fresh pack processing season.

Mental Demands: Work requires strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills. Ability to apply commonsense understanding in supervisory capacity and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to independently plan, organize, and anticipate work activities. Ability to multi-task during the daily work process of interpreting, prioritizing, and managing (direct/supervise) quality procedures and specifications related to production activities.

Work Schedule: Requires evening, weekend, and some holiday work, and extended hours during production peaks, as well as good attendance year-round.

Safety & Hazard Exposure: Regular exposure to hazards typical of an industrial environment, including electrical systems, rotating equipment, pressurized vessels, heights, and chemical handling. Strict adherence to safety protocols, lockout/tagout procedures, and PPE requirements is essential.

Pay: $26.84 - $29.60 per hour
