Full Job Description

Starting Wage Range: $18.86/hr. -$24.07/hr.

Essential Functions:

Prepares all meals and snacks for residents of both lodges.
Cleans dining area, kitchen equipment and work areas. Loads and unloads dishwasher and returns equipment to its proper place during and after each meal preparation.
Maintains standard of sanitation, health, safety, and nutrition.
Organizes and maintains kitchen areas.
Conducts periodic deep cleaning in common areas.
Properly handles, stores, and labels leftover food items.
Works in conjunction with the department supervisor to coordinate food procurement through outside food vendors.
Organizes and maintains the pantry area and ensuring it is kept clean.
Assists with shopping for food items.
Responsible for all meal preparation, ensures all items needed for the daily menu are ready, and ensures any special arrangements necessary are made.
Maintains recipe collection of frequent menu items and specialty items of interest.
Maintains inventory of stock, and monitors expiration dates.
Communicates any variations in menu or additional food items needed to supervisor.
Reports any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to supervisor for recommended course of action.
Assists with recreational cooking activities that may be scheduled.
Performs a variety of other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education, Experience, and Licenses:

Requires a High School Diploma or GED.
Requires a minimum of one (1) year of cooking experience in a regulated environment.
OR equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Driving Requirements:

This position may require driving.

Qualifications, Registrations, and Certifications:

Requires knowledge of the Privacy Act and its application.
Requires First Aid/CPR certificate within 180 days of hire.
Requires food handlers’ card within 30 days of hire.
Knowledge of and sensitivity to Native American culture required.

Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements:

Continually requires the ability to express or receive detailed information or important instructions through oral communication.
Continually requires working with fingers rather than the whole hand or arm. Requires repetitive movement of wrists, hands and/or fingers. Often requires walking or moving about to accomplish tasks.
Requires standing and/or sitting for sustained periods of time, raising objects from a lower to a higher position and/or moving objects horizontally.
Occasionally requires lifting of up to 50 pounds.
This position is frequently subject to inside environmental conditions which provide protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes, and is occasionally subject to outside environmental conditions.

Supports a safe work environment by performing all duties in accordance with Tribal safety policies and procedures, and Emergency Management Plan.

Due to the nature of the interactions with other employees and the public we serve, employees may be required to provide documentation of, or receive, certain health vaccinations.
May be called upon to serve as a Disaster Reservist during emergencies.
Local travel is occasionally required. Travel outside of the state is infrequently required.
