Distance Learning Program Teacher
Job Definition: Under the general supervision of the Distance Learning Program Principal, perform various tasks with the major responsibility of providing exceptional instructional-related services for families and students participating in a virtual school program.
Reports to: Distance Learning Program Principal
Job Characteristics: Instructional-related services shall include skill development, expanding standards-based knowledge, and developing the ability to reason. Responsibilities include supervision, guidance, discipline, and student safety. Independent judgment and decision-making are required in many matters where established rules, regulations, policies, or precedents do not exist.
Primary Functions:
- Identify the needs of individual students by continuous assessment of skills and abilities
- Use identified student needs to plan instructional services
- Prepare and write instructional plans
- Use a variety of curriculum and virtual tools to implement instructional plans
- Organize and manage student activities
- Apply learning theories to meet the needs of students
- Evaluate and report student progress
- Initiate, plan, and carry out regular and required parent/student meetings via technology platforms and in person
- Initiate and maintain communication with parents and colleagues
- Conduct regularly scheduled virtual visits with assigned students, providing support in core subject areas
- Present face-to-face reports during staff trainings and meetings
- Answer daily emails and phone calls from assigned students and parents/guardians
- Address student concerns and issues presented in meetings or other communication
- Reply to emails that show student learning plan/portfolio submission with feedback
- Score student work, Performance Tasks, and provide preparation for OSAS Assessments
- Maintain student files with completed work and assessment results
- Perform required assessments for all assigned students
- Refer students as needed to the Special Services Team and provide interventions using the Response to Intervention Plan
- Attend all staff meetings
- Attend required meetings with supervisor
- Attend required meetings with the Special Education Director
- Host weekly synchronous virtual classes
- Manage course content in the student learning management system
- Maintain classroom/virtual communications with families
- Maintain daily reports for attendance
- Maintain contact logs
- Submit monthly documentation of mileage and appointments
- Facilitate and record grades for the report card process and credit tracking
Other Functions:
- Participate in in-service and professional development activities
- Assist in the assessment of students and the planning required to meet those needs
- Attend meetings and serve on committees as assigned or directed (or if individual volunteers)
- Set and carry out professional goals each year
- Contribute to the continuous innovation that is required of a unique distance learning program
- Operate office machines, including smart phones, computers, scanners, copiers, and iPads
- Use a variety of software, including MS Excel and Google Suite.
- Fulfill other duties as assumed or as assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications and Minimum Requirements:
Education/Licensure/Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Current State of Oregon Teaching License
- Endorsements as required by the Oregon Department of Education with the appropriate endorsement in areas of assignment. Candidate must have obtained the TSPC Elementary-Multiple Subjects or its equivalent license endorsement
Experience:
- One year of successful teaching experience within the subject area OR successful completion of an Oregon instructional internship program
- Three years' experience, preferred
Other minimum qualifications:
- Must have a dedicated, confidential workspace free from distractions
- Operational knowledge of the Internet and related technologies
- Must also be able to pass a background check
- Obtain CPR/ First Aid certification

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions:
This job requires sitting or standing at a workstation for most of the day.
- Location: Remote Office and travel to meet students in public settings or homes
- Frequency of travel: Occasional travel may be required to various schools as daily work locations, meetings, trainings, and conferences; assigned locations will vary and may require overnight stays
- Light physical activities and efforts are required when working in an office environment

Physical Requirements: Working closely with students can be physically and emotionally tiring. Teachers spend time online, in meetings, and in classes. Work may be stressful for those who deal with unmotivated and disrespectful students. Work may require exposure to adverse weather conditions and noisy work areas.
