Full Job Description

Salem Electric is an electric cooperative, serving approximately 20,000 members in a compact service area located in the Mid-Willamette Valley of Oregon.

The accountant maintains subsidiary ledgers, ensures the accuracy of submitted information, and prepares journal entries, account analyses, and financial reports.

A successful candidate for this position will have a thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, be detail-oriented, possess excellent communication skills, and have advanced skills with Microsoft Excel.

Essential job functions include:

· Perform reconciliations of cash, accounts receivable adjustments, and member assistance programs.

· Perform month-end close duties including preparation of journal entries, account analyses, maintenance of subsidiary ledgers and closing of asset management, fleet, work orders, and material modules.

· Prepare first of the month reports; analyze and comment on reports. Perform year-end reports, schedules, annual financial statements, and audit documentation.

· Perform weekly processing of accounts payable.

· Assist with the entry and preparation of capital credit checks, and year-end reconciliations.

· Review and approve accounts payable, payroll, member refunds, capital credit claims, and other financial payments.

· Perform a variety of accounting duties in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.

Requirements:

This position requires experience in accounting along with a preferred Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in accounting, or an Associate’s degree with an emphasis in accounting. This position requires three to five years of experience.
