General Statement of Duties
Works with the Facilities Manager to maintain the buildings and property of the school, ensuring that all facilities are in working order. Handles janitorial responsibilities and other upkeep as needed.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities

- Maintain the school campus and surrounding property in a clean, safe, and orderly condition.
- Perform routine custodial duties, including: Vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, and scrubbing floors.
- Cleaning carpets and maintaining hard floors by stripping, waxing, burnishing, and buffing as needed.
- Cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, locker rooms, weight room, gymnasium, and stadium areas.
- Cleaning classrooms, offices, kitchen and cafeteria areas, entryways, and other common spaces.
- Cleaning interior and exterior windows.
- Replacing light bulbs as needed.
- Collecting and disposing of trash and recycling.
- Keeping janitorial closets and storage areas clean, organized, and secured at all times.
- Assisting with grounds maintenance to ensure a clean and safe campus, including:
- Pressure washing buildings, sidewalks, and walkways.
- Removing snow and ice from driveways and sidewalks.
- Weeding, pruning, raking, mowing, and performing other seasonal grounds maintenance as needed.
- Monitor and maintain inventory of custodial and maintenance supplies; notify the Facilities Manager when replenishment is needed.
- Comply with all district safety policies and required training, including bloodborne pathogens procedures.
- Secure buildings and school premises upon completion of assigned work.
- Set up and arrange classrooms, meeting spaces, and facilities for special events and functions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
General

- Performs other work-related duties as requested by the facilities manager
Job Scope
The Custodian and Maintenance Asst. encounters recurring work situations with occasional variations from the norm with a moderate degree of complexity. The Custodian and Maintenance Asst. operates from established and well-known procedures and determines own practices and procedures, operating independently with minimal supervision.
Communication/Client Contact
Contacts are normally made with others both inside and outside the school. Contacts are usually made at Facility Manager’s request and may contain confidential/sensitive matters.

Education/Experience
Experience in custodial work and building and grounds maintenance preferred. Proficient in use and care of custodial equipment and supplies. Familiarity with OSHA safety standards or willingness to learn safety requirements for school buildings and grounds, and the proper storage and handling of hazardous materials.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, crawl, climb, stoop, talk, reach, sit, hear, handle, and perform repetitive motions of the hands/wrists, knees, and feet. Lifts and moves items up to 50 pounds.
Working Environment
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Must be able to work flexible hours when necessary.
