Full Job Description

The Adolescent & Family Outreach Peer's primary role is to engage with the community in a variety of settings to provide resources, build community, and provide referrals to Adolescent Clinical Treatment and Recovery Services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Individual Engagement (60%)
- Conduct in-person outreach to various sites including city streets, neighborhoods, community resource locations/events, and schools.
- Engage individuals in “Change Talk” and provide them with resource options that align with their motivations to change. Use Empathic Communication to meet people “where they are at”.
- Provide education about and handle, distribute, and collect health promotion supplies (e.g. Narcan, wound care supplies, sharps containers, etc.).
- Refer individuals to various supports, including other peer delivered services providers, housing, and treatment services.
- Conduct in-person (on location) or virtual follow-ups at the request of individuals.
- Monitor behaviors of clients and community members and react appropriately, including de-escalating heightened situations, responding to threats to safety and security, and taking other actions as needed.
- Facilitate access to ASAM assessments.
- Support family-led events and activities, including sharing information, supporting event logistics, and supporting participant & family attendance.
- Promote and support other family programs as needed.
Documentation (40%)
- Document all work activities (e.g. outreach activity reports, individual encounter data, demographics, etc.)
- Follow policies and standards regarding confidentiality and documentation.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This position may require handling and disposal of needles as part of clean-up duties, necessitating adherence to proper safety protocols to mitigate potential risks and ensure a safe working environment.

Attend supervision, team, and agency meetings as directed.

Other tasks as assigned.

JOB/BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES

Youth & Family Services. This position works directly with transition-age youth and their familial support systems: you must be skilled at navigating adolescent interactions and developmental milestones. You must also be skilled at managing and maintaining excellent professionalism and ethical boundaries.
Skilled with Conflict Management. You must possess essential skills related to de-escalation and conflict resolution. With street-level outreach engaging individuals of all backgrounds, this position requires managing and overseeing interactions between community members and other staff and navigating conflict in a safe manner.
Service. You must support an organizational culture that reflects the value placed on high quality client services and inter-departmental collaboration. This involves maintaining excellent professionalism and ethical boundaries.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

This position typically requires a High School Diploma/GED.
At least two years of continuous abstinence from all forms of drugs and alcohol, except those prescribed by a doctor (excluding marijuana based on federal laws). Two years in recovery is required per MHACBO specifications.
Must maintain a valid driver’s license for state of residency and have a driving record permitting coverage under the corporate liability policy. If driving a personal vehicle for work purposes must also have and maintain personal auto liability coverage. All employees driving for work purposes, regardless of whether driving a personal or agency vehicle, must complete the agency’s driving approval process before they drive for work. Individuals who do not currently have a valid driver license but who are eligible to obtain one within 90 days of hire may be considered. Individuals who cannot be approved to drive company vehicles based on driving history may be considered if they have a safe & reliable personal vehicle which may be used for work purposes.
Must be able to pass a background check with minimal or no previous justice involvement. Minor previous justice involvement is reviewed and evaluated on a case-by-case basis using standards set by DHS.
Must be a Certified Recovery Mentor via MHACBO or be eligible to achieve the certification within three months of hire.
Understanding of multiple pathways to recovery and recovery support services.
Ability to work independently and as a team player.
Lived experience related to the population being served.
Able to establish and maintain professional boundaries while providing supportive services and building trusting relationships with clients, staff and community partners.
Excellent communication, trauma-informed approach and conflict resolution skills
Well-developed documentation skills and a strong commitment to quality management; ability to write accurate and concise reports while meeting tight deadlines.
Functional ability with Google Suite programs including: GMail, GDrive, GCalendar, GDocs, etc.
Must be dependable, flexible and punctual, and exhibit strong time management skills.
Able to communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively both orally and in writing. Able to clearly articulate information to people of varying cultural, linguistic, and educational backgrounds.
Able to problem solve and develop creative approaches.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience working with minority communities, especially transition age youth demographics, and knowledge of the current disparities that certain communities of service users may face more broadly in society.
At least 2 years of experience as a Recovery Peer.
At least 1 year of experience engaging with street-level outreach related to harm-reduction and/or resource distribution.
Familiarity with clinical SUD treatment services.
Familiarity with QPR and crisis intervention.

JOB DETAILS

Pay: $26.00 - $27.00 per hour, Full-time | $1/hr pay differential may be available to bilingual employees

Schedule: Flexible, to be determined with Supervisor and Caseload. Generally weekdays from 9am-5pm.
