POSITION DESCRIPTION
Natividad is currently seeking to fill one (1) full-time Trauma Registrar position in the Trauma Services Department. Under general supervision, identifies, collects and abstracts data for the trauma registry, National Trauma Data Bank (NTDB), Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP) and hospital quality data including data collection on defined trauma patients, entry of data into the registry, assuring accuracy of data, correcting deficiency in data, updating registry and abstracting data from registry for reporting and trend analysis in accordance with regulatory requirements and performs related work as required.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
A combination of experience, education, and/or training which substantially demonstrates the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
Through Knowledge of:-
Trauma registration practices and procedures

Medical terminology applicable to pre-hospital care, emergency room care, and discharge care

Basic anatomy and physiology and anatomical terminology

AIS/ISS and ICD-10 coding
Working Knowledge of:-
Electronic data management and reporting, including the use of standard office software applications, Microsoft Excel and hospital database management (ie. Meditech)

General requirements associated with maintaining trauma registries and ensuring compliance with ACS standards

Methods of researching

American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma (ACS COT) and Title 22 trauma data requirements

Skills and Ability to:-
Accurately read and interpret handwritten and transcribed documents in a medical record, identify qualifying trauma cases, and abstract/code case information into a trauma registration database

Read, interpret and evaluate complex technical reports and information.

Maintain records and compile statistics

EXAMPLES OF EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/TRAINING:
Any combination of training, education and/or experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities, and required conditions of employment is qualifying. An example of a way these requirements might be acquired is:
Experience:
One (1) year of experience as trauma registrar or two (2) years of experience collecting and entering data into a registry is preferred.
AND
Education:
An Associate Degree in a health-related field with completion of any ICD-10 coursework.
AND
Certification:
Possession of current certification as a Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries (CSTR) issued by the American Trauma Society and Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAISS) issued by the Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine (AAAM) is highly desirable.
Some positions may require the possession of the Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist certificate.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Employees who drive on County business to carry out job related duties must possess a valid Driver License for the class vehicle driven or have the ability to provide suitable transportation that is approved by the appointing authority.
