Schedule
This position is for 3rd shift, Sunday-Thursday (10:10pm- 6:30am) with Overtime and Fridays and Saturdays as needed.
Position Summary
Perform the day-to-day tool and die maintenance and repair activities in accordance with maintenance/repair and operations strategies and goals. Perform tooling changeovers and make trouble shooting press calls to the stamping department. Exemplify the behavior necessary to create and maintain a high performance workplace. Proactively seek opportunities for improvement to assure maximum company performance.
Essential Responsibilities
- Efficiently repair tooling through careful planning, exceptional detail in execution, and a strong focus on continual improvement.
- Monitor tooling and equipment performance while in the press and repair when needed. If in the press for any reason, delay breaks until tooling is operational.
- Lead projects and less experienced employees.
- Perform engineering changes, and rebuilding of tooling as required.
- Must be able to trouble shoot, tryout, and spot efficiently in the press.
- Monitor tooling maintenance schedule and log activities accurately in Plex. Ensure repairs are done on schedule.
- Be a part of the set-up team and change over tooling as scheduled.
- Proactively assess all areas of tooling to determine needs for repair prior to a breakdown occurring. Continuously assess tooling, dies and equipment to assure excellent working condition to achieve maximum performance.
- Adjust, connect, or disconnect wiring, and other parts, using hand or power tools. Install or replace machinery, equipment, and new or replacement parts and instruments, using hand or power tools.
- Clean or lubricate machinery, equipment, instruments, tools, work areas, and other objects.
- Set up/operate machine tools: lathe, drill press, saw, milling machine and grinder.
- Collaborate with all areas of production to assure the best priority and course of action is taken.
- Maintaining a strict eye on the safest method of repair that results in the safest production opportunities.
- Observe equipment and machinery to verify efficient and safe operation.
- Proactively seek opportunities to develop the production operator’s technical and trouble-shooting abilities.
- Ensure responsible areas are clean and hazard free at all times.
- Log crib materials used and alert purchasing if running low on required supplies.
- Mig and Tig welding if qualified.
Education and Experience
- Technical Training or a qualified Tool & Die apprenticeship Certificate; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 4+ years of experience of die repair and troubleshooting in a manufacturing environment.
- Sheet metal Stamping die background experience
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge
Excellent working knowledge of die repair; Knowledge of machining; Knowledge of press operation; Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
Skills: Good communication skills. Solid toolmaker skills. Mig and Tig welding skills a plus.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
Physical Demands
The position is in the factory and involves walking, standing for long periods of time throughout the day. It requires being able to lift up to 50 pounds, push and pull up to 75 pounds. Stooping/bending/twisting is required on regular basis. Fast-paced environment, usually work standard 40-hour weeks, but overtime may be necessary as work load’s dictate. This may include weekdays, weekends and/or holidays.
Work Environments
Work performed in a shop environment and regularly exposed to dust, odors, oil, fumes and noise. Working with presses, heavy equipment and machinery is dangerous, it requires wearing personal protective or safety equipment. This job is surrounded by machinery that often becomes very hot, which may lead to an uncomfortably warm environment. Requires working in non-air-conditioned variable temperature factory setting. Employees may be subject to random drug and alcohol testing under FAA regulations.
