Pharmacists Needed — Brooke Army Medical Center (Multiple Positions)

Location: 3551 Roger Brooke Drive, Fort Sam Houston, TX 78234 Job Type: Contract. Openings: 13 total across 4 specialties

About the Opportunity We're hiring pharmacists across multiple specialties to support Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC), one of the nation's premier military medical facilities and the Department of Defense's only Level I Trauma Center. We're seeking candidates for the following roles:

Clinical Pharmacist – Cardiology (2 openings)
Clinical Pharmacist – Emergency Medicine (2 openings)
Staff Pharmacist – Inpatient (7 openings)
Staff Pharmacist – Outpatient (2 openings)

Clinical Pharmacist – Cardiology & Emergency Medicine (4 openings)

Responsibilities

Provide direct patient care, including treatment assessment and medication management
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize drug therapy
Clinically evaluate patients daily with documentation of pharmacy recommendations and interventions
Review patient drug regimens for indication, dosing, interactions, and monitoring
Cardiology: Provide anticoagulation management (warfarin, DOACs, heparin), monitor cardiovascular dosing strategies, and deliver Medication Therapy Management services
Emergency Medicine: Respond to Level I Trauma activations, code blue events, and massive blood transfusion emergencies; support antibiotic stewardship and discharge planning
Support residency rotation requirements through pharmaceutical education for staff and beneficiaries

Qualifications

Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.)
ASHP-accredited PGY1 with BPS board certification, OR ASHP-accredited PGY2, OR ASHP-accredited PGY1 with 3 years of clinical practice experience and BPS board certification
American Heart Association ACLS certification
Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) board certification
Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a clinical pharmacist
Hospital clinical experience must be recent (within past 2 years post-graduation/training)
Significant clinical pharmacist experience in a large hospital setting, ideally post-residency, in the relevant specialty

Staff Pharmacist – Inpatient & Outpatient (9 openings)

Responsibilities

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize drug therapy
Receive and review prescriptions for the full range of pharmaceuticals, including controlled substances
Determine substance type, strength, dosage, and quantity per accepted practice and pharmacy SOPs
Inspect, verify, and label dispensed medications for accuracy
Inpatient: Perform advanced pharmaceutical calculations for IV admixtures and complex parenteral nutrition; participate in training of pharmacy technicians and residents
Outpatient: Enter and review prescriptions for allergies/interactions, coordinate with prescribers, provide patient counseling and medication reconciliation
Respond to Code Blue activations as assigned

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in pharmacy from an ACPE-accredited college or university
Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a pharmacist
Minimum 1 year of relevant pharmacy experience (inpatient or outpatient) within the past 2 years post-graduation
Residency experience not required

Schedule Full-time, averaging 40 hours/week. Shifts range 8–12 hours with unpaid meal breaks. Inpatient operates 24/7; outpatient hours run 0500–2200, 7 days per week. Clinical specialty roles follow clinic schedules between 0530–2100. Unplanned schedule changes may occur based on operational need.
