About Us

We are not a traditional tax firm – and that's intentional. We built our firm to provide exceptional client service while creating a collaborative, sustainable workplace. Rather than operating through layers of management, we work as a team where everyone is expected to communicate openly, take ownership of their work, and contribute to the firm's success. Our workload remains steady throughout most of the year. During tax season demands and expectations increase and the team rises together to meet the challenges. We serve businesses, including S corporations, partnerships, LLCs, sole proprietors, and their owners.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Enrolled Agent (EA) or CPA to prepare and review individual and business tax returns with accuracy, consistency, and sound professional judgment. This is a technical role – not a people management position. In addition to preparing high-quality returns, you'll identify tax-saving opportunities, recognize reporting issues, and help maintain the firm's technical standards through return review and collaboration with junior staff. You should be comfortable identifying errors, resolving technical issues, researching complex tax questions, and recognizing opportunities that improve client outcomes. We value professionals who bring thoughtful recommendations – not just questions – and take pride in delivering review-ready work. As a client-facing professional, you should effectively explain tax concepts and answer client questions with clarity and confidence.

Qualifications

You should have:

Active EA or CPA credential (or be close to obtaining licensure).
At least two years of experience preparing federal tax returns.
Experience preparing both individual and business returns, including S corporations, partnerships, and LLCs.
Strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple engagements independently.

Work Environment

This is a hybrid position based in Castle Hills (San Antonio). New team members begin primarily in the office to learn our processes before transitioning to a typical schedule of three to four days in the office and one to two days remote. Reliable internet is required for remote work.

This environment works best for people who are comfortable taking ownership. You should be able to stay organized, follow through on your work, and speak up when something doesn’t look right. There is no micromanagement, but there is accountability. You’ll be expected to manage your time, stay current on your workload, and contribute where you see gaps. The structure of the firm means you are not “reporting up” in the traditional sense—you are contributing laterally. That requires a level of maturity and confidence in your judgment, balanced with the willingness to collaborate and ask questions when needed.

Core ResponsibilitiesTax Preparation

Prepare Forms 1040 (including complex Schedule C and Schedule E returns), 1120-S, 1065, and all required federal and state tax returns.
Prepare amended returns, year-end tax adjustments, and estimated tax calculations as needed.
Review prior-year returns to ensure continuity of reporting positions, elections, carryforwards, and other tax attributes.

Return Review & Quality Control

Review tax returns prepared by junior staff for accuracy, completeness, and technical correctness.
Verify information entered into Drake against supporting documentation and identify omissions, inconsistencies, and reporting errors.
Review the tax treatment of income, deductions, credits, elections, and other reporting positions.
Request and evaluate additional information needed to resolve technical issues and ensure complete reporting.
Take defensible and auditable positions regarding tax matters.

Financial Statement Review

Review profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and general ledger activity to ensure financial information supports accurate tax reporting.
Review owner distributions and contributions, shareholder basis, partner capital accounts, and depreciation schedules where applicable.
Recommend adjusting journal entries and collaborate with the bookkeeping team to resolve accounting issues before filing.

Tax Analysis & Planning Support

Identify legitimate deductions, available tax credits, missed elections, and other opportunities to reduce future tax liabilities.
Contribute tax planning ideas by identifying opportunities during return preparation and review.

Tax Research & Technical Judgment

Research technical tax issues encountered during engagements and develop recommendations before escalating complex matters.
Exercise independent professional judgment by analyzing issues and presenting informed conclusions rather than simply identifying problems.

Technical Leadership

Serve as the primary reviewer and technical resource for the junior tax preparer.
Provide constructive feedback, explain corrections, and coach junior staff to improve technical knowledge and work quality while maintaining firm standards.

Ownership & Accountability

Take ownership of the accuracy, completeness, quality, and timeliness of assigned engagements.
Manage priorities independently, identify risks proactively, communicate concerns early, and contribute practical solutions.
