Karen and Ronald Herrmann Distinguished Chair in Caregiver Research Professor with Tenure Faculty Position
The School of Nursing at UT San Antonio invites candidates to apply for a full-time tenure position at Professor rank. Those who would prefer to work primarily in the School of Nursing are highly encouraged to apply. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Role Summary:
The Karen and Ronald Herrmann Distinguished Chair in Caregiver Research will conduct discovery and knowledge generating research, submit applications for external funding of research, and mentor research teams including junior faculty, students, and postdoctoral fellows. This individual will also serve on mock review panels and will engage with research within the School of Nursing, across UT San Antonio, and in the community.
Candidate Profile:

Academic Credibility: A Ph.D. with current R.N. Licensure is required. A Ph.D. in Nursing, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing is preferred. This individual must qualify for tenure at Full Professor rank, and the person must be eligible for a R.N. Licensure in Texas.

Research Credibility: Evidence of excellent research and scholarship with a proven track record of past and current federal external funding (NIH funding is highly preferred. Other federal sponsors could be HRSA, AHRQ, and CDC.) at the national level in caregiving research. The candidate’s academic trajectory would include any disease-oriented area, health, or community-based outcomes research.

Evidence of Mentoring: An exemplary track record of mentoring both junior and senior faculty and Ph.D., graduate, and undergraduate students.

Collaborative Orientation: Passion to collaborate with others to promote interdisciplinary and intradisciplinary research and scholarship across academic schools and colleges.

Interpersonal Skills: A high level of energy and confidence with a proactive attitude that promotes teamwork; a personal style that is positive, upbeat, and solutions-oriented; and the ability to inspire faculty, students, and staff to build trust and transparency.

School of Nursing:
The School of Nursing is at the forefront of academic nursing, leading excellence through innovative teaching, quality research, compassionate care, and community service in South Texas and beyond. It offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees, including BSN, DNP and PhD degrees and specialty certificates. Today, the school’s enrollment consists of 261 graduate students and 755 undergraduate students, including 37% first generation college students and 19% male nursing students, almost twice the national average. The School of Nursing employs a state-of-the-art Center for Simulation Innovation for clinical education, as well as a growing patient care practice providing primary and acute care at our own clinic, Wellness 360 and at a variety of community partner sites.
