Job Description and Duties

Effective July 1, 2025, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented. PLP 2025 requires that each full-time employee receive a 3 percent reduction in pay in exchange for 5 hours of PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. Salaries do not reflect the recent changes.

This advertisement is for a Correctional Lieutenant position. Located at the California Institution for Women in Corona, San Bernardino.

Limited term 12 months; may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.

You must be a Peace Officer with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

As a line supervisor assigns duties of subordinate Correctional Sergeants, gives instructions, provides On-the-Job training, maintains discipline, and makes inspections to see that Correctional Sergeants are alert and diligent in the performance of their duties, supervises the custodial functions during movement of incarcerated person(s) to and from their assignments, recreation and meals. Supervises the maintenance of proper physical and sanitary conditions and otherwise see to the well-being of incarcerated person(s), prepares procedures for post orders. Supervises the inspection of incoming and outgoing vehicles, materials and supplies for the presence of contraband; directs inspections for contraband; supervises the necessary procedures in the admission and release of incarcerated persons. Supervises period counts of incarcerated person(s) reports infractions of rules and regulations and irregular or suspicious occurrences and takes or recommends appropriate action. Participates as a member of the institution classification and disciplinary committees; issues passes for visitor(s) entering or leaving the institution. Enforce institutional rules and regulations with firmness, tact and impartiality; promote socially acceptable attitudes and behavior among incarcerated person(s). Think and act quickly in emergencies, analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action; speak and write effectively; keep records and prepare reports.

Working Conditions

This is a Correctional Institution open 24 hours/7days a week, all positions will be office centered.

This is a correctional facility; you will come in contact with incarcerate person(s).
