Full Job Description

Please note: This is a not a biotech role; only candidates with relevant environmental consulting experience will be considered for the position.

We are seeking a senior-level biologist & project manager to expand our biological team and senior management team. The ideal candidate will have 8-15+ years working in the southern California environmental/CEQA field; a solid understanding of the local biological and aquatic regulatory framework; and exceptional writing, project management and interpersonal skills. We are an established, independent biological company with an excellent client base, many long-term contracts, and a solid work backlog.

Job Responsibilities

· Demonstrates advanced CEQA, local agency, NCCP, aquatic, and ESA/CESA regulatory knowledge and understanding

· Prepares high-quality reports of varying complexity with minimal principal revision/oversight and successfully mentors other staff in technical writing and regulations

· Successfully manages routine and complex projects and contracts with minimal principal involvement

· Manages and oversees preparation of ARDRs and permit applications; can advise/lead on appropriate permitting pathways

· Exhibits strong time management skills and can manage multiple project deliverables to produce a high volume of accurate work; collaborates closely with team to anticipate and address project-level and business-wide issues in a timely manner; mentors other staff in these areas

· Has strong local ecological understanding and can perform occasional routine field work if needed (note that role is not a field track position, however)

· Facilitates and leads productive and efficient external and internal meetings, including with clients and agencies

· Demonstrates high level of ‘consultant IQ’ through supportive client approach and responsiveness; clear and concise communication; and going above and beyond for clients

· Takes active role in business growth and development and prepares routine and complex work pursuit materials

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications

· Highly experienced in writing biological documents in southern California (8-15+ years)

· Bachelor’s degree in biological science, environmental science or closely related field; master’s degree preferred

· Exceptional writing skills

· Excellent understanding and ability to apply southern California biological regulations, e.g., MSCP, MSHCP, CESA, ESA, etc.

· Excellent leadership skills and interest in mentoring other staff

· Detail-oriented with extremely strong project management/organizational skills and at least 4+ years leading high-complexity projects

· Outstanding collaboration and communication skills

· High level of emotional intelligence with ability to get along with co-workers/clients; open to continued improvement and collaboration
