Mental Health Clinician, Central Drug Court
Adult Programs

Program Summary
Our Collaborative Court Programs are designed to provide comprehensive treatment and case management services to non-violent offenders that have entered into the criminal justice system due to substance dependence and/or co-occurring disorder(s). The goal of the program is to reduce recidivism and support individuals in becoming productive members of our community.

Who We’re Looking For Mental Health Clinician, Adult Programs

The Mental Health Clinician, reports to a Program Manager. This role is responsible for providing integrated assessments, treatment, and rehabilitation services for adult participants 18 and older with co-occurring substance use and other mental health disorders to achieve stabilization of their living situation and long-term plans to maintain recovery. The Mental Health Clinician must be able to work collaboratively as part of a team including treatment staff, law enforcement, and court representatives.

This position is responsible for a wide range of activities to include but are not limited to:

Conducts in-custody initial screenings and determination of clinical need for treatment for new referrals.
Prepares comprehensive Mental Health Assessments and Treatment Plans using the ASAM Criteria and DSM-V diagnosis.
Provide assessment of high-risk behaviors and provide crisis intervention as needed.
Provide Individual, couples, and family therapy and collateral services to reentry court participants.
Facilitate psychoeducational skill building, relapse prevention, cognitive behavioral and process groups as assigned.
Coordinate discharge plans and services for participants nearing termination of probation.
Complete all required documentation of participant care.
Attend weekly treatment team meetings, court meetings, and clinical supervision as assigned.

What skills do you need?
This is challenging work. A positive “can do” spirit is a must. Skills for this specific role include:

Experience conducting biopsychosocial assessments, formulating treatment plans, and providing individual, couples, and group therapy.
Knowledge and familiarity of the ASAM Criteria and DSM V diagnosis of substance use disorders.
Understanding of theories of etiology and treatment of participants with interacting disorders.
Proven ability to work closely with other mental health/recovery professionals and interact effectively with service providers from various disciplines including Public Defenders, District Attorneys, and Law Enforcement professionals.
Capacity to make accurate assessments and to execute proper disposition during clinical emergencies.

Qualifications

Minimum one (1) year experience working in mental health and the field of Substance Use Disorder treatment and recovery.
Minimum one (1) year professional experience with reentry or justice involved adults and or youth preferred.
Required to have a valid driver’s license and properly registered and insured motor vehicle meeting the minimum level of insurance as defined under the California DMV Code.
Meet background and security clearance guidelines for facility access and passes background check: Criminal background clearance through the State of California Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Additional background clearance required by San Diego County jails. Driving record through the State of California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Drug Testing

Education

Minimum of a master’s degree in Social Work, Clinical Psychology, or related field from an accredited program
Active registration with California Board of Behavioral Sciences as an Associate or Licensed Clinician
