Full Job Description

Job Title: Head Chef/Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Job Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Operations Manager
Work Location: On-site at Swagyu Burger Poway

Position Objective:
Support both kitchen and front counter operations by preparing and cooking food, taking guest orders, processing payments, and maintaining a clean and welcoming service environment. Generate the weekly schedule, lead your team and communicate with administration accordingly while enforcing compliance. Assist in other duties as needed to support smooth restaurant operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Prepare ingredients by washing, chopping, and portioning food items in accordance with safety and sanitation standards.
Cook and assemble food orders using grills, fryers, and other equipment while maintaining quality and speed during service.
Plate menu items accurately and consistently following company presentation guidelines.
Greet guests at the front counter, take accurate food and drink orders using the POS system, and communicate any special modifications clearly to kitchen staff.
Process customer payments quickly and correctly, handling both cash and card transactions in accordance with company policy.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of both kitchen and front counter areas, including wiping down surfaces, restocking utensils, condiments, and supplies.
Follow all food handling, cross-contamination prevention, and hygiene protocols in compliance with the California Retail Food Code.
Monitor inventory levels of ingredients and front counter supplies; report shortages or expired items and assist with restocking as needed.
Adhere to personal protective equipment (PPE) use, handwashing procedures, and posted kitchen safety rules.
Provide friendly and efficient customer service, address basic guest questions or concerns, and escalate issues to a supervisor when appropriate.
Assist with opening, mid-shift, and closing duties for both kitchen and front counter areas as assigned by the manager or supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience: Prior experience in basic cooking, food prep, or cashier/customer service roles is preferred.
Education: Not required, but technical training in culinary arts or equivalent practical experience preferred. Basic knowledge of food preparation and safety required.
Languages: Ability to understand and follow instructions in English required. Bilingual Spanish/English preferred to support team communication, but not required.
Software Knowledge: Experience with POS systems is a plus, but not required; training will be provided.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

Must be able to stand and walk for long periods.
Must be able to lift materials and tools up to 50 lbs.
Work is performed in a hot, fast-paced kitchen and front-of-house environment with exposure to sharp tools, cleaning chemicals, and kitchen equipment.
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by restaurant operations.
