Full Job Description

Overview:

We are partnered with a national civil defense litigation firm seeking experienced California-barred attorneys for its California practice group. This is a fully remote opportunity with flexible hours and hiring across the Labor & Employment, General Liability, and Mass Tort groups.

The Opportunity:

Our client is seeking attorneys to manage a diverse civil defense caseload from inception through resolution. The incoming attorney will handle active litigation files, draft and respond to complaints, motions, and written discovery, take and defend depositions, appear at hearings, and participate in mediation and trial. Day-to-day responsibilities also include conducting legal research, negotiating settlements, communicating directly with clients, and collaborating with partners and colleagues on case strategy. Titles are flexible based on experience — the firm is open to hiring at the Associate, Senior Associate, Of Counsel, and Partner levels.

Qualifications:

Juris Doctor from an ABA-approved law school
Active California bar license in good standing
2+ years of civil defense litigation experience, preferably in General Liability, Mass Tort, Toxic Tort, Construction Defect, Labor and Employment, or insurance defense
Experience independently managing a caseload of up to 13 matters, taking and defending depositions, court appearances, and motion and discovery drafting
Mediation and trial experience strongly preferred; experience mentoring junior associates a plus
Strong legal writing, drafting, and document review skills
Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
Excellent oral and written communication and client-facing skills
Self-motivated and able to work effectively in a remote environment
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and document management technology
Commitment to confidentiality and the ethical rules governing attorneys

This is a full-time, fully remote role offering a salary range of $150,000–$230,000 depending on experience, a flexible billable requirement, and quarterly bonuses tied to billable hours. The firm also offers annual performance reviews with meaningful salary growth potential, flexible work hours, medical insurance, optional dental, vision, life, disability, accident, critical illness, HSA and FSA options, a 401(k) PTO, and one-on-one mentorship and training directly from partners.
