Job Description

UCSF Health is seeking a Health IT - Principal Trainer to join the Health IT Training and Education team. This team is responsible for training and education related to the electronic health record and other Health IT technologies, including Epic/APeX, across UCSF Health hospitals, practices, affiliates, and community partners.

The Principal Trainer will collaborate with Epic/APeX application teams, informatics, and clinical and business operations to provide training and support for a broad range of end users, including front-end users, revenue cycle staff, physicians, nurses, and other clinical and administrative professionals.

This role applies seasoned clinical applications expertise to develop, document, train, implement, and support best-practice standard work designed to improve the use of APeX/Epic and third-party systems. The Principal Trainer will also provide excellent customer service, track issues, and follow up with users as appropriate.

Key responsibilities include:

Develop, document, deliver, implement, and support Health IT training and best-practice workflows.
Provide role-based training and support for APeX/Epic applications and integrated Health IT technologies.
Collaborate with application teams, informatics, and clinical and business operations.
Train and support users across clinical, procedural, administrative, front-end, and revenue cycle workflows.
Quickly understand clinical, procedural, and administrative workflows and related policies and procedures.
Diagnose problems and develop, test, and implement effective solutions.
Manage multiple competing priorities while meeting program and project deadlines.
Provide technical guidance and support to users at varying professional and technical levels.
Track issues and provide appropriate follow-up and customer service.
Work with senior staff and managers as a technical resource on functionality, efficiency, cost-effectiveness, policy, and performance.
Support multiple APeX/Epic applications and integrated Health IT technologies.
Work across multiple UCSF Health, campus, and community affiliate locations.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in health care information technology, computer science, or a related area and/or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Epic certification must be completed within 12 months of the start date.
3–5 years of relevant experience.
Broad and/or in-depth knowledge of one to two clinical applications specialty areas.
Knowledge of systems and functions, including design, development, implementation, user support and training, maintenance, quality assurance, and system testing and evaluation.
Strong problem-resolution skills with the ability to quickly diagnose problems and develop, test, and implement timely and effective solutions.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively train, support, and collaborate with clinical information system users at all professional and technical levels.
Proven organizational and time-management skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks and complete projects on deadline.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical information and instructions clearly and concisely.
Strong analytical, documentation, and reporting skills, including the ability to design and execute tests, analyze system performance data, and produce substantive reports and analyses.
Ability to work with senior staff and managers as a technical resource and provide advice on functionality, efficiency, cost-effectiveness, policy, and performance.
