Full Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

Portion meals by following the portioning information and USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) Meal Pattern.
Use the Transportation log to measure the amount of food to pack and deliver to centers.
Deliver food to assigned sites following safe food handling practices within the allotted delivery time.
Wash reusable lunch containers, hot holding boxes bags, carts and other kitchen dishes daily.
Unload and store food supplies.
Unload food delivery bins to the kitchen.
Complete required paperwork in a timely manner.
Maintain clean kitchen, storage rooms, pantries, refrigerators, oven and other areas as required.
Maintain the cleanliness of company vehicles with attention to details at all times.
Accurately complete weekly van safety check.
Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
Attend meetings and trainings as required.
Cross train on all delivery routes.
Cross train as a Roving Assistant and provide support to the Cooks.
Tight control on all food inventories and maintains par levels; notify Lead Cook and Food Services Manager when par levels are low.
Contribute suggestions for improvement in systems affecting the central kitchen.
Other duties as assigned by the Food and Nutrition Service Manager and Educational Health and Supportive Services Director.

Supervision/Administration:

Ensure necessary reports and paperwork are completed accurately and submitted within the given timeframe.
Maintain accurate records required by the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).

Health and Safety:

Must report any safety concerns in reference to company vehicles immediately to the supervisor.
Mandated to report suspected child abuse.
Follow all traffic laws and signage.
Employee is required to disclose if their driver’s license has been suspended, revoked, or otherwise invalidated.
Report safety hazards and injuries immediately and ensure proper paperwork is completed in a timely manner.
Use all equipment and materials in a safe and acceptable manner.
Wear footwear that is slip resistant (must say slip or oil resistant on the bottom of the shoe), offers ankle support, and has composite or steel toe support and any other required safety equipment.
Comply with health and safety regulations according to USDA regulations and health codes.
Identify workplace hazards and/or unsafe conditions and work with supervisor to take appropriate action to correct.

Skills and Abilities:

Possess the ability to safely drive and operate a delivery vehicle.
Understand and follow both verbal and written instructions.
Communicate clearly verbally and in writing.
Effectively communicate with regulatory agents, staff, parents, and community representatives.
Possess and use customer service and employee relations skills.
Perform mathematical calculations using basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
Maintain and adhere to a delivery schedule.
Learn assigned delivery routes and stops.
Must present a neat, professional appearance.
Belief in working as a professional, cohesive team member.
Respect for diversity and embrace working with multi-cultural communities.

Education and Experience

Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Must be in good health as verified by a current health screening, including a test for Tuberculosis performed under the supervision of a physician not more than 60 days prior to employment.
Proof of up-to-date immunization records to include but not limited to Measles, Pertussis, Tuberculosis (every 4 years) and Influenza (annually).
Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, criminal record, FBI and DOJ clearance and child abuse index check prior to employment.
Must possess California Driver’s License and meet minimum insurance requirements for personal vehicle and have a driving record which meets the standards set forth in Administrative Regulation 4532 and 4533. If current auto insurance has a “Business Use Exclusion” it will need to be removed from your policy.
Completion of Mandated Reporter Training as per Assembly Bill 1207. Must be completed every 2 years

- Requires employee, on a regular basis, to lift 50 pounds or more.
- Requires employee, on a regular basis, to push and pull 200 pounds or more.
- Requires employee, on occasion, to climb or balance.
- Requires employee, on a regular basis, to use the following visually: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to judge distances.
- Requires employee, on a regular basis, to use their hearing on a regular basis to: respond quickly to sounds, recognize alarms, and receive detailed information through oral communication.
- Requires employee to have the ability to wear personal protective gear correctly most of the day (as needed).
- Requires employee to wear slip resistant shoes daily (bottom of sole must say slip or oil resistant). Footwear must also have ankle support and composite or steel toe support (annual stipend provided).
Work Environment:
- Requires employee, on a regular basis, to drive an automobile for work.
- Requires employee, on a regular basis, to work outdoors in cold, wet and heat conditions.
- Requires employee, on a regular basis, to work indoors in a noisy environment.

The driver is responsible for preparation, pickup and delivery of prepared meals to various SJB programs throughout Santa Clara County. Responsible unloading and storing food supplies along with maintaining the cleanliness of company vehicles, work areas and company equipment. Has a strong curiosity about cost efficient seasonal nutrient-dense foods, and how to receive and store the items. Understands how to control inventory and food cost through proper portioning.
