ABOUT THE ROLE
ALIVE Solar & Roofing is hiring an experienced Roofer to join our local San Diego crew. We work across residential and commercial — shingles, tile, TPO, PVC, EPDM, and modified bitumen — alongside our solar team and also alongside our service crews. We prefer candidates with commercial low-slope experience to round out the crew, but solid residential chops are required. Roofing is a valued career here, with a local crew, real benefits, and a real name on the work when we leave.
We are not a national franchise. We are not a call center. The crew on the roof is the crew we hired, trained, and trust. If you take pride in clean seams, tight flashings, and a job done right the first time, we want to talk to you.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Install, repair, and maintain residential roof systems — asphalt shingles, tile, and standing-seam metal.
- Install, repair, and maintain commercial low-slope systems — TPO, PVC, EPDM, and modified bitumen.
- Heat-weld seams, install ISO and cover board, fabricate and install flashings, curbs, edge metal, and roof penetrations.
- Tear off existing systems and prepare decks for new installations, including dry-in and waterproofing details.
- Read and interpret job drawings, spec sheets, and manufacturer details (GAF, Owens Corning, CertainTeed, Carlisle, Firestone, Johns Manville, etc.).
- Inspect roofs, identify failure points, and recommend repairs or replacements to the foreman.
- Work safely at heights using fall-protection equipment per OSHA and Cal/OSHA standards.
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with the foreman, the crew, and — when needed — the customer on site.
- Keep tools, materials, and the jobsite clean, organized, and safe from start to finish.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Required 5 years minimum of hands-on residential roofing experience — shingles, tile, or steep-slope systems.
- Required 5 years minimum of TPO specific experience.
- Required Commercial low-slope experience — TPO, PVC, EPDM, or modified bitumen. Heat-welding, ISO/cover board, and detail flashing experience all weigh heavily in our favor.
- Required Comfort with standard roofing hand tools, nail guns, pry bars, and tear-off equipment.
- Required Solid grasp of fall protection, ladder safety, and Cal/OSHA jobsite practices. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 preferred.
- Required Valid California driver's license, reliable transportation, and the ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
- Required Able to lift 50+ lbs repeatedly, work on your feet all day, and work in heat, cold, and at heights.
- Nice to have Manufacturer certifications (GAF, Owens Corning, CertainTeed, Carlisle, Firestone, Johns Manville, etc.).
- Nice to have Bilingual English/Spanish.
- Nice to have Prior foreman or lead-installer experience — we promote from within.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Pay $31–$40 per hour depending on experience and certifications, plus overtime. Strong commercial experience earns the top of the range.
- Benefits Medical, dental, and vision coverage. Voluntary life, accident, critical illness, and hospital confinement plans. HRA available.
- Time off Paid time off and paid holidays per the ALIVE handbook.
- Tools & PPE Company-provided tools for shop work, harnesses, and safety gear. Tool stipend program for personal tools.
- Growth Paid manufacturer training (Carlisle, GAF, etc.), OSHA training, and a clear path to lead installer and foreman.
- Stability Steady year-round work — commercial, residential, and working with our solar crews — not seasonal layoffs.
WHY ALIVE
We build careers, not just rooftops. Our installers are professionals — named in our Yelp reviews and still answering the phone after the job is done. We pay fair, we train hard, and we expect the work to reflect the name on the truck.
