Sharp San Diego Surgery Center is seeking a Certified Sterile Processing Technician (SPD Tech) to join our team in San Diego, CA. The SPD tech is responsible for the decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of surgical instruments and equipment at this Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). The SPD Tech ensures all instrumentation and supplies meet regulatory standards and support safe, efficient surgical operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILTIES:
- Decontaminate and sterilize surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies using approved methods (steam, EO, or low-temp systems).
- Assemble instrument sets following count sheets and manufacturer guidelines.
- Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and integrity; report damage or malfunctions.
- Maintain accurate sterilization records and equipment logs in compliance with ASC policies and regulatory standards.
- Monitor inventory levels and assist with reordering supplies and instruments.
- Prepare case carts and supply trays for scheduled procedures.
- Ensure sterility and integrity of wrapped and packaged items before distribution.
- Adhere strictly to infection prevention protocols and OSHA safety guidelines.
- Collaborate with clinical teams to support timely turnover and operational efficiency in the OR.
- Participate in ongoing education, quality assurance activities, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Help with receiving shipments when necessary
Other duties include but are not limited to:
- Assists operating room personnel by ensuring operating rooms are clean, patients are transported, and necessary case information is accurately transcribed.
- Assists with surgical preps and patient positioning.
- Unpacks, stocks, and re-stocks operating room shelves with supplies needed to assist with procedural efficiency.
- Participates as a member of the team to promote a positive working environment, and assist other technicians when requested or necessary.

- Certification: Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or equivalent required.
- Experience: Minimum 1 year of sterile processing experience, preferably in an ASC or hospital setting. 2 or more years preferred
- Knowledge: Understanding of AAMI, AORN, and AAAHC.
- Skills: Attention to detail, organization, ability to work independently, and commitment to patient safety.
Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and perform repetitive motions
·Licensure and Certification:
o Required: Basic Life Support Certification – BLS.
Language Skills: Must possess the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Writes routine reports and correspondence and speaks effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
Reasoning Ability: Must possess the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions while dealing with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Healthcare Business Acumen: Must have the knowledge and be well-versed in the nuances and complexities of the business aspects of healthcare, including Protected Health Information (PHI) procedures and safeguarding other identifiable information regarding patient data.
· Computer Skills: Must have basic knowledge of Internet software Spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software.
