About the Position:
A Brewer at Level Crossing deals with many brewing, packaging, cleaning and maintenance duties at the brewery and otherwise provides support to the brewhouse and cellar as directed. Duties will include, but will not be limited to, brewing wort on our 15-bbl Alpha brewhouse, cellaring beer in our six 30bbl fermenters and two 30bbl brite tanks, packaging beer on our 35 CPM Alpha canning line, running tests on products in progress, following cleaning and maintenance schedule and procedures, cleaning all equipment and packaging, following our inventory management practices, working with other members of the team to ensure all beer that leaves the facility is of the highest quality and that the brewery is kept clean, functional, and up to Level Crossing’s standards at all times. This person is also responsible for helping the Head and Assistant Brewer in maintaining a safe, efficient and delicious production facility.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
-Brew and package beer according to brew schedule.
-Milling, mashing, and lautering, boiling wort, cooling and transferring to fermenters, racking beer from fermenter to brite beer tanks and ensuring all brewing processes are recorded properly.
-Curate and manage a CIP, passivation, and beer stone schedule for brewhouse, fermenters and bright tanks, heat-exchanger, kegs, taps, brewery floor & drain.
-Running the canning line and making sure it cans remain in spec
-Keep Brewing Facility clean and functional at all times.
-Follow Cleaning & Maintenance Schedules and consult Head Brewer about cleaning needs and perform all required cleanings to the appropriate standard including tanks, brewhouse, kegs and other packaging, packaging line and other equipment as directed.
-Inventory counts of finished beer, grain, hops and other raw materials inventory.
-Follow inventory procedures for all raw materials, chemicals, beer, cooperage, small parts, packaging, supplies etc., and report deficiencies to the Head Brewer.
-Monitor quality, temperature, pressure, gravities and carbonation of beers in tanks, in packages, and at the Tap Room on a daily basis.
-Participate in beer tasting panels
-Represent Level Crossing Brewing at various events, festivals and promotions
-Follow all brewery and Level Crossing Brewing policies and procedures and follow current developments in local, state, and federal laws applicable to the service of alcohol, safe food handling, health standards etc.
-Label all kegs and other package products in accordance with federal and state law using appropriate keg collars, labels and date codes.
-Assist with kegging and packaging beers, including bottling and canning.
-CIP all fermenters, brite tanks and brewhouse
-Transfer beer to and from barrels in a sanitary manner.
-Clean and maintain barrels
-Cellaring tasks including regular line cleaning and cold box organization and cleaning
-Cleaning and maintenance of jockey boxes
-Fulfill keg cleaning needs as advised by Head Brewer
-Monitor CO2 and O2 tanks for brewery production and draft systems. Notify Head Brewer when tanks need to be refilled
-Daily and weekly cleaning to keep the brewery spotless
-Keep records of repairs and develop or make necessary changes to planned maintenance schedule
-Work with other operators to identify areas of required maintenance before equipment failure
-Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair brewery and packaging equipment related problems such as mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and electronic
-Proficiency with a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and other tools necessary to complete repairs
-Oversee cleaning and maintenance of kegs with regular validation
-Plan and communicate inventory needs for packaging
-Maintain inventory of kegs, bottles, crowlers, and supplies
-Ensure proper and safe handling of chemicals
-Ensure quality and integrity of products
-Able to work on their feet for a whole shift
-Able to lift 55 lb bags of grain
-Capable of following verbal and written SOPs
-Able to move full kegs safely with a hand truck
-Assist in startup and CIP of canning line and kegging rig
-Able to move heavy pallets with a pallet jack
-Able to safely operate a forklift with 4,000 lb load
-Comfortable working in an unairconditioned brewery
-Familiar with sanitization practices
-Capable of strict attention to detail
-Very knowledgeable of the brewing process, as well as good mechanical/electrical aptitude.
-Able to work with high quality standards with or without direct supervision.
-Able to multitask and adjust to changing priorities.
-Available to work some early mornings, swing shifts, and weekends
-Able to safely operate a motor vehicle
-Adaptability to new processes/procedures, the ability to learn quickly and think critically.
-Must be able to work varying hours depending upon production schedule.
-A positive attitude in a demanding repetitive production environment.
-Strong orientation towards quality control and safety.

Minimum Qualifications:
-Applicant must be 21 or over to apply
-Must have at least one year of commercial production brewery experience
-Thorough knowledge of brewing process, craft beer culture, beer industry and a commitment to quality.
-High school diploma or equivalent
-Two Year Technical Certificate or Four-Year degree a plus
-Clean driving record
Preferred Qualifications:
-Three+ years brewery experience
-A formal brewing education from an accredited brewing program
-Experience brewing writing recipes and brewing beer at home
-A desire to constantly improve your knowledge of all aspects of craft beer
-Experience driving a commercial box truck
-Knowledge and understanding of draft systems preferred
-Cicerone Beer Server Level 1 certification.
-Beer festival experience
-Forklift certification (will provide onsite)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
-Must be able to perform simple grasping, fine manipulation, and repetitive hand and arm movements frequently
-Must be able to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, push, pull, and walk on uneven surfaces on an occasional basis
-Must be able to work in hot, cold, and wet environments
-Must be able to climb stairs both inside and outside and frequently lift 60 lbs. and occasionally up to 170 lbs.
-Must be able to drive vehicles with either a manual and / or automatic transmission
-Must be able to use a ladder, i.e., work at heights of 10+’ above grade
-Must be able to operate a fork truck, electric hand truck, and mechanized lifts.
-Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
-Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to work odd hours, sometimes evenings and weekends.
