Full Job Description

Job Description:

An opening exists for a full-time, in-person position at GUS Medical Schools at our administrative offices in Orlando, Florida. We are seeking an Assistant Director of Career Advising and Alumni Relations to deliver virtual career guidance to all basic science (M1/M2) and 3rd-year (M3) remote medical students, while cultivating structured alumni engagement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

Early & Clinical Career Advising: Design and deliver interactive, remote career advising modules for all basic science students using the AAMC Careers in Medicine model (specialty exploration, CV/resume building) and all 3rd-year students (residency strategy, audition elective planning).
Specialized Pathway Support: While serving the entire student body, build and maintain a focused set of dedicated resources for Canadian students navigating the dual ERAS/NRMP and CaRMS application processes, as well as international students navigating visa/sponsorship requirements and state licensing considerations.
1-on-1 Advising: Conduct virtual individual advising appointments to assist all students with career self-assessments, specialty selection, and match application planning.
Alumni Network Integration: Build and maintain a structured alumni career mentor database to integrate alumni into student advisory pipelines, supporting the general student body while also specifically highlighting mentors who navigated international or CaRMS pathways.
Panels & Skill Building: Coordinate and host alumni-led webinars, specialty spotlight panels, mock interviews, and career transition presentations.
Alumni Community & Events: Organize alumni events, regional gatherings, and engagement initiatives, with a particular focus on areas hosting clinical partners.
Other duties as assigned by the Deans.

Essential Competencies:

Familiarity with medical residency application systems (e.g., ERAS, NRMP, CaRMS) and advising frameworks (e.g., AAMC Careers in Medicine) is highly desirable.
Demonstrated flexibility in organization of workflow and adaptability to changing tasks.
Detail-oriented with ability to multi-task and problem solve in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks.
Outstanding interpersonal skills to work effectively and collaboratively with students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
Ability to interact with discretion and confidentiality.
Ability to recognize and respond to student needs with appropriate triage and management.
Ability to commute/relocate: Reliably commute or plan to relocate to Orlando, Florida before starting work (Required).

Education:

Bachelor's degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum of 2 years of experience working with students in advising or student service-related areas required (higher education setting preferred).
Experience working in a medical school preferred.
